Do you think he's fitted to join Philippine politics?

Well, I'd say that he's better off as a boxer. Not a politician.

He seems like a nice guy. HOWEVER, right now as a non-politician, he is ALREADY closely tied to certain politicians wherever he goes. That factor alone does not bode well to his perceived image as a potentially uncorruptible politician who puts the people first before his personal needs.

I used to scoff at people who enter politics without knowing full well the reponsibility it entails.

Now, I have a different opinion. I have nothing against them.

However, one should realize that it is a calling and not everyone who has a desire to run is meant to be elected into office, whatever position it may be.

And lastly, this line that has been used for the umpteenth time: "Gusto ko lang makapaglingkod sa aking bayan or in English, I want to be of service to my fellow countrymen" shouldn't be the primary reason.

WHY?

Yes, being an individual in position means one can do more, but then again, I've known a lot of individuals -- individuals of lesser affluence -- who have made far more contribution in our country than majority of those who are elected. There was a desire to help and they acted upon that desire.

And in the case of Manny Pacquiao, I truly believe that even if he does not run for office, he can contribute a lot by investing the money he earned by setting up a company that could help create jobs for Filipinos.

I have probably digressed already from the topic but his legacy for doing this could probably far outweigh his being a championed boxer and being a politician -- if he does run.

Once again,. I have to say that this country is a little america, and they did you no favours!
All you have from the american occupation is dreadful English (which I call american) and fast food smothering huge shopping malls.
You seem also to have adopted the stupid idea that media personalities know something about running countries.

Maybe this is the american influence again:-
Ronald Reagan, an actor, became president of the usa
Arnie Shwarzenneger became governor of California.

Your president - Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, is doing a good job as far as I can see, and I wish the population would let her run her term in peace without stupid semantics.
She has the experience, her family history confirms that, what the hell did that idiot Estrada do for this place.
The other excellent leader in recent years was Fidel Ramos, who put the Philippines back on the world map as far as business is concerned,.
He is still foreign affairs advisor to Gloria, thank whatever!
The people elect a leader, let their votes be for people who understand government and foreign affairs - this country needs to join the rest of the world one day, and sticking a boxer who is not even well known outside this country into the seat of power would be a joke, and would set this country back another 20 years, puttting it about 30 years behind the rest of the Asian region, in terms of foreign investment and tourism, which is what you need.......

I was just in the Philippines and his hometown of General Santos City. He is likened to a national hero and he would win any office he ran for including the Presidential seat! But, I think he could help the people more by not being distracted by the political game. GO PAC MAN!

I love MAnny Pacquiao. he is a great boxer. I watcvh his fights since I was in highschool. He was really my idol but when I saw him endorsing some politicians, and I even feel that he wants to run as a politician someday soon, My respect for him as a great boxer has dropped. He was even promoted as Army Reserve? What a heck...

I agree with you. I bet other politicians are just going to use him to win. And what on earth does he know about politics? He can't just box his way to the top. Politics in the Philippines is a popularity contest. People do not measure competence. After the last presidential elections, people were asked who they had voted for and why. One lady said, "Si Gloria kasi kamuka niya si Nora Aunor.(Gloria, because she looks like Nora Aunor.)" And this man said, "Si FPJ kasi magaling siya makipaglaban(FPJ because he fights well)" I saw these interviews on the news, okay! No kidding. So I won't be shocked if Manny Pacquaio wins if he does run. WTF right.

It's the bullshit Philippine media insinuating Pacquiao as a potential political figure. Stupid and impolite Manila based-media whose sensibilities are beyond compare, make a living by sowing intrigues and bait people to comment negatively to issues they want to air or publish. It is they who create controversy.
Manny is a simple man justly compensated for his discipline, sacrifices and hard work. He didn't finish high school. All he wanted for Filipinos is unity and to help those who really needed help. Let him do it his way without political overtone.

He'd probably win. And when he does, its time for everyone to abandon ship.

The only reason why Pacman is being asked to run is to strengthen Atienza's ticket. He might think he owes a debt of gratitude to Atienza because he was supporting him during the time he was still struggling as a young boxer.

If he really wants to help people, he should realize that he doesn't need to be in public office to do that. In fact, as a private individual, he would have a freer hand on helping whomever he wants, however he wants.

The problems with Filipinos is that, we are too emotional when it comes to these things. Yah, I'm sure he'll win only because of what he is now but not because of what he did in the past and I don't think that's a solution to our current problem, which is poverty. I don't have anything against him but for all due respect, we have other qualified politicians including the president that can't even solve our problems.

well, i also have that same thoughts as you, but when i realized when his birthday was, december 17, well, even if he's not a politician, he really cares for the community, he will always welcome people who approached him for help, he has a big heart for people who are down.He will extend assistance to the deservings. I also think he is not a corrupt person, but he can be manipulated if he overextended his thoughfulness. His only weakness is women that may lead him to downfall. This statements i made are based from personality analysis thru numerology. I can attest to this credibility and have been practicising this for years.
