yes it is very common. If there is anything in your system then the force from pushing well get rid of it. It happend to me and i didnt even know it! I asked my mom a few days later and she said i did but the nurses barely noticed and just simply scooped it away. They are very use to seeing this as it happens to so many women and they are not grossed out by it all. Sometimes before going into labour you have a huge bowel movement or even diharea; they say its your bodies way of cleaning out your system to prepare for child birth but this doesnt happen to everyone. Trust me though people are right when they say that during your labour you wont care and like me may not even notice so i wouldnt let this worry you at all. Good luck

Wow!! I just read all the other answers and I bet you feel relieved that it happens to just about everybody! My story isn't any different!! I didn't even realize I was crapping on the table (I just thought they kept folding the little pad thing at the end by my bum over for some other reason, I guess.). I asked my husband in between contractions at one point "Did I poop?" and he just nodded at me with a funny smile. Truthfully, labour takes SO MUCH out of you that you can't even laugh when your doctor cracks a joke and you might even fall sleep for the 30 seconds or so in between contractions...I did. Best of luck...and I promise..pooing will be the last thing on your mind.

I didn't when I was in labor with my daughter, but everyone's different. Depends on how long you're in labor, when you last ate, stuff like that.
I DID feel like I had to poo, though. Turned out it was just the baby pushing down, getting ready to be born.
When I was pregnant last time (6 months along with #2 now) I was really worried about that, too, so I asked my OB-GYN. He said it's fairly common and not to worry, because when it does, the nurses just clean it up quickly without comment, and go on about business.

It is very common. I did it and so did my 3 sisters. If you haven't went to the bathroom to do #2 before you give birth chances are you will. With all the other things going on you won't be worried about pooing. This must be your first baby. Congrats and Good Luck!

Yes it happens. It happened to my wife with our second one. I'm gonna tell you why it happens though, this is the way my wife explained it to me. The muscles that you will be using to push your baby out, are the EXACT same muscles you use when you have to go #2. The nurses wisked it away so fast, with my wife, I hadn't even registered what had really happened. I read in, 'What to Expect When your Expecting,' that doctors used to give enemas to women that were about to deliver. I suppose you could ask for that, if you're that worried about it.
Personally I wouldn't worry about it. I was standing right there when it happened to my wife, and it was gone way before I had the chance to be grossed out. It's completely normal and nothing to be embarrassed about. If you think about it, the baby is being pushed out, and it pushes agaisnt your bowels too, it HAS to go somewhere.

It is very common. If you really don't want to worry about it, give yourself an enema before you go to the hospital.
My doctor told me it's actually a good thing because it means you are pushing in the right spot. The nurses and doctors don't even flinch...they've seen everything before. It just gets wiped up and you may never know you did it.
It really is going to be the least of your worries at that point.

This happen to me my first pregnancy. FYI if you had not taken a poo before labor it may hinder your progress (dilation). I was doing my labor natural and so I was walking in the L&D ward and my hubby was helping me do squats but nothing! I wouldn't dilate! *This is gross what I'm about to tell you* I felt like I needed to fart. Instead I sharted... yes gross... my sister was there and my hubby and the nurse was real nice and fast about cleaning it up. I thought I would be so embarrassed but when you have so many people checking you out... you really forget to feel self conscience (and my OBGYN was a man). Soon after I pooped the nurse said "OMGosh thats what you needed!" The doc checked me out and I was fully dilated ready to start pushing. REMEMBER PUSH LIKE YOU NEED TO TAKE A REALLY HARD POO. God Bless and God speed!!!!!

this happened to me with my first child.. i was pushing so hard that i didn't even realize i did a #2... there where these mirrors that came down from the ceiling so you could see everything going on with the birth and when i looked up at the ceiling mirrors i seen it and i was like what the heck is that !! lol and the mid-wife just wiped it away... sorry to be so gross... but yeah its normal and with my second child the labor was so quick.. i did #2 at home before i left to the hospital which was a relief cause i worried about a repeat of what happened before with my first child.

Your Dr. has probably been pooed on more times than not. If you are that concerned about it ask your Dr. for an enima before delivery that way it will clean you out before hand so theres less to worry about. If you do poo it is completely normal. Don't worry cause I guarantee you the Dr. is NOT worried at all!!

When I was in labour, my midwife had me "practice pushing" while seated on the toilet. Anything that was there came out at that point. Believe me, you lose all inhibitions when you are in the throes of labour. Don't worry about anything but gettin' that precious baby out into the world! Good luck :)
