I am doing contract work for a law firm. There are approximately 60 attorneys on one floor in an open environment (no cubicles). The floor is run by 2 managers. One of the managers gives preferential treatment to two specific contract employees. This manager is 22 years old and fraternizes with these two people while enforcing the policy on everyone else. Numerous complaints have been made to his superiors to no avail. I'm at my wits end with this hypocrisy.

YOU ARE THE ATTORNEY, WHY ASK US. THE ANSWER IS DO YOUR JOB, LIVE UP TO YOUR CONTRACT. WHEN THE CONTRACT IS UP, DON'T RENEW AND EXPLAIN WHY. THEN GO TO ANOTHER FIRM AND START ANEW.
EVERY PLACE YOU WILL EVER WORK WILL BE THE SAME WAY. THE MANAGER WILL HAVE HIS/HER PET AND THERE ISN'T A THING TO BE DONE ABOUT IT.

The sorry news is it will take a long time, but you have do document every incident you witness or experience. Don't keep it on your work computer. When the manager slips up in a way that's big enough to draw a little attention, or when you finally get so fed up you can't stand it anymore, make a complaint to his boss.

It always helps if you have grounds for a lawsuit. You don't have to threaten one, but if you make your argument correctly, they'll read between the lines. Of course you could also get fired for some trumped up reason if you do this, or you could get seriously harassed. That's why a union is good. But if you don't have a union, just document and wait for your chance to spring.

Also, do perfect work so if they do try to fire you you'll be able to turn around and sue. Do not keep documentation on your work computer, and don't play with Yahoo answers from work anymore, either, because you'll be under scrutiny. Law firms can be particularly vicious. Are other people witnessing these same behaviors? There is strength in numbers, you could all complain to his boss together.
