This is a question about the Starwars series, and I've heard from some that the book came first, others, that the book came second.
I want to know... I could find out myself, but I don't know what year the movies came out, so... Anyway, help please?

The Screenplay cam first. Episodes 1-12

Lucas then deiced to make 3-6 as Feature film, they would sell better in the 70's. After the success of the Films the books and novelizations begain to come out.

Then Lucas made 1-3

There are currently no plans to do 7-12 (Grandmaster Skywalker Saga)

Lucas wrote the stories in the 70's. The book came out after the May '77 release of Star Wars.

The movie came first......it was a screenplay written by George Lucas, it was not adapted from a book. There is no 7th book, but there is what they call 'expanded universe' which is a whole slew of books written by other authors based on the Star Wars universe. Those books continue where Return of the Jedi leaves off, and covers from that point on for a number of years.

I had always thought the movie came first - and the books written from the screenplays. I would be interested to know any hard facts about this also.

well i cant say this is 100% fact,

but there has been a rumor for years, that in about 1975 Lucas wrote a 9 chapter book... and later broke them down to the 9 (at the time) planned episodes..
