Some of the conservatives here rail on and on about the ACLU supporting the right of the funeral protesters and NAMBLA to assemble. They also complain endlessly about the anti-war protesters and say, among other things, that they should be stripped of their rights. I've also seen some liberals make the same suggestion whenever a key figure has made a politically incorrect remark. Don't these people understand that if one person's or one group's freedoms are taken away, then EVERYONE'S freedoms can be taken away, as well? We should all remember the fact that the Constitution applies to EVERYONE and we should be thankful that it exists!

I agree 100%. When we start stripping right from one group of people while allowing another group to do the same thing, we cease to be a land where "all men are created equal" and everyone is entitled to "equal protection under the law".

Once we start denying people the right to have differing (and sometimes disgusting) opinions, we run the risk of losing the right to our own opinion and begin the descent into fascism.

I agree that people like the church that protests at funerals have the right to do so, as disgusting as it is, just as I have the right to be a member of the Freedom Riders to shield the families. Take away one, you lose the other...

You are right and wrong at the same time... yes we should have freedom to assemble.. but what you are giving examples of are horrible... first it should be illegal to protest a funeral- it is disgusting, immoral, and should not be allowed... I'm sorry but there are right ways to assemble and wrong ways and that IS a wrong way to Protest... you are affecting other people.. instead of the people you are directly affecting... NAMBLA are protesting to condone a heinous crime.. you want people on the streets saying "YES, we should have the freedom to have sex with little boys because we love them and are not harming them" everyone of them should be locked up... There should be limits on protests.... and rightfully so, once it starts affecting other people, instead of the people you are trying to get your word out for.. it is then interfering with their rights... There is more than one funeral somewhere so John Doe who just lost his father and is standing at his Dad's funeral site as the sermon reads it is being directly affected by the protesters protesting some other guy's funeral.. he has the right to grieve in peace and no one should take that away from him... and I'm sorry no one should be allowed to Protest to condone a heinous crime, and that is just sick to think they should be allowed to do so. I'm a Liberal but that is just way to out there for me to agree with

I do agree with you. But when did the constitution become a barrier to hide behind to commit immoral acts against suffering families? Yes, they have the legal right to protest; but they don't have the moral right to protest.

Thank god for the freedom riders who protect the fallen service members from these monster who protests funerals.

I would support the ACLU, but in the past the only time they support gun rights was when a minority kid got caught on school grounds with a handgun.

What if theyres a definite people someplace that have been unfastened to elect thier leaders and that they chosen oppressive dictators. no longer because of the fact they choose to be oppressed a lot as that they enjoyed that those people hate individuals.

While I think that your message is correct, it may be better put in a less hostile manner. Try to avoid loaded questions like this one where a person has to jump to the conclusion. (Have you stopped beating your wife?)

It is true that while we don't agree with someone's views, they should have a right to express themselves.

To be fair though, shouldn't racists also be able to express their opinion?

What about all those people in prison? Their rights have been stripped yet I still have mine. I'm sure glad your kind doesn't run the government or we'd all be in prison by that logic.

If the government is allowed to suppress one person or group, then they'll eventually come for you as well.
