i know boring question but how much does it cost to open up a checking account and how old do you have to be ....

That depends solely on where you open the account. Some banks, savings and loans and credit unions have no minimum balance to open although most will have a minimum balance to maintain within the savings account to avoid monthly service charges.

There are some out there who do not have minimums for opening the account and have no service charges.

It shouldn't cost you anything. Most banks allow you to open an account with $25 or $50. If they are charging you a fee... then look somewhere else.

I don't know if there is an age requirement, you might need a parent to open the account with you. The age might be 18.
