okay...so in my economics class one of my friends took a small piece of paper off the wall (a student-made poster) with an answer from one of our packet questions...anyway...class was about to end and the teacher noticed that it was gone and made a HUGE deal about it. My friend wanted to spare himself the embarrassment and turn it in after the bell, after the bell a friend of his turned it back in for him...end of story...I WISH!!! well the teacher ended up making up posters/flyers about finding out who the "mad poster theif" is...He even had a class disscussion about him, while he was home sick yesterday...He wanted us to decide his punishment and his friend's reward...Tomorrow, he will probably humiliate the student...I understand the student should have asked for the poster...Is it just me or is the teacher going too far...?

Your teacher is correct. He is trying to teach him a lesson. To take responsiblity for his own actions. By having his friend give it back to the teacher he was dipping out of his responsibility. More than likely your friend knew there would be a consequence for taking it, but he still chose to take it. So he must deal with the consequence. This is how it works out in the real world. There is no one to cover for you. We are all responsible for our actions. It is ourselves who go to court, not our friends. It is ourselves who serves the jail time, not our friends. It is ourselves who owe bills in which need paid, not our friends. So really it is worth being embarrassed at school in front your friends and learning a valueable lesson rather dealing with it when the punishment is much more harsh. Consider that he will think twice before puting himself in a situation like this. This lesson is not only for your friend but for all of the students. You have to admit it would make you think twice. Good Luck & God Bless!

Is your teacher always like this? He may be having a bad day. He shouldn't involve the whole class. Discipline actions should be between teacher, the student, the parents, and the administration. Other students need to be left out of it.

Sounds like he is trying to make a lesson out of it. Teachers try so hard, and it is exasperating when students take things or destroy them in your room. I can't put up holiday decorations anymore because I find them missing or destroyed. It is possible that this teacher just hit his limit on this one. If this is an unusual behavior for the teacher, then he just couldn't take it anymore. Perhaps an apology is in order from that student?

First he took a poster, and secondly he did it to cheat on homework, thirdly he did in essence vandalize the teachers room. If he had handed it in right away the teacher probably wouldn't have gone off the way he did. He is going to have to face the consequences and he is lucky your teacher didn't report him and get him suspended etc.

Soccer Coach is right, he should be made an example. If the kid had turned it in himself, the teacher might not have made a big deal about it. The teacher sees that he had a friend turn it in for him as a sign of cowardice.

too much of an exaggeration. If it were money or school property maybe. But for this? it's nothing to make a fuss about... you should probably tell this friend to confess the problem with a principal or someone thats able to understand, and spare him unecessary humiliation and punishment.

I believe your friend shouldn't have taken the poster without permission. I'm not trying to sound grumpy, but the teacher was right. You know, if you break a rule, you must suffer the consequences.

The teacher should make an example out of him for the other kids to learn.
