I take it you don't live out here because if you were part of the hipster scene already, you wouldn't be asking. You also wouldn't call yourself "rock/punk type" you'd either call yourself a rock star, or a hipster.
Silverlake, Los Feliz and Melrose are the nighborhoods for you. A scenster like yourself will find great eats (forget chain restaurants! you could be eating organic vegan something), trendy clothes by designers you haven't heard of, but will be all over Kitson next week, and you can drink till you forget you were ever in LA. Enjoy!

Will the best way to do that is go to a bar and ask if there is any cool rock bars that are around or you can just look it up on the internet
