I've read about the few women who are addicted to hard drugs and can't stop, but cigarettes or liquor? A woman in the office next door has 1 cigarette an hour. And she's at least 6 mos pregnant. She sickens me. Have you noticed this in other future mothers?

All, I'm sorry that THEPRINCESS went through and gave everybody a thumbsdown in her rampage. I don't give those. It's just sad to see someone angrily fighting for potentially harming a baby than just saying, "Hey, ya know...my doctor told me to cut back or I'd harm my baby. I'd never purposely hurt my own baby." Unfortunately, rampages are usually dismissed as the rantings of a crazed person. Too bad. Could have enlightened some folks.

some people are just weak minded, plain and simple. i smoked before i found out i was pregnant, but when i found out the thought of smoking made me sick. quitting isnt as hard as people make it out to be... especially if you have such a great reason to stop like having a baby. most of them dont think about what could happen to their baby... i know i could never live with myself if i knew i caused something to be wrong with mine because i chose cigarettes over their health.

You're short of reassurance that you'll smoke and also have a healthful little one. The reality is, plenty of ladies have smoked and had positive pregnancies. My mom smoked with me and I was once healthful at delivery. But, I paintings in a prime-hazard being pregnant health center and believe me, I see plenty of heartbreaking matters for the reason that of the mummy now not caring for her frame. Your little one is getting cancer agents from you. You are placing poison into your frame, and it will your little one. Nobody can let you know whether or not or now not your little one can be born healthful. But recognise there's a risk your little one can also be born with low delivery-weight and immature lungs, and sure, your little one may even die. The subsequent time you decide upon up a cigarette, feel approximately the entire detrimental chemical substances you're FEEDING your baby. Please recall getting aid to give up smoking instantly. It's now not valued at it, sweetie. ?

My friend got pregnant and still smoked, but she was also an alcoholic and addicted to speed, and she kick both of those habits less than a week after she found out she was pregnant. HE doctor was so proud of her for dropping the other, much more harmful habits that he did not pressure her about the smoking. Would it have been better if she quit it too, probably, but its also possible that without the release she got for cigarettes she may have started back on another habit.

I think it is disgusting. I know this will anger people but I see it the same as child abuse. As for this not being anyone's business--is is anyone's business when a child is being beaten? or should we all pretend we don't see that as well?

I honestly think the person whose doctor told them to continue smoking was either lying or in need of a new doctor. Quitting smoking cigarettes would not cause an unborn child any more stress than actually smoking. Do you even know what smoking does to the baby? That is stress. (and smoking can cause a lot more than a low birth weight) I know these things for a fact. I do not need to go in to a doctor's appointment to know it is healthier to quit smoking cigarettes while pregnant.
If my doctor told me such ridiculous advice I would have a new doctor.

yes i am a smoker my self. my partner and i were trying for a child 3yrs ago i quit smoking cold turkey. after 5 misscariages i started again( i was stressed depressed and miserable and it seemed to help like before)
i gave up hope of having a child and was smoking for six mths i found out three weeks ago i was 6wks pregnant i was still smoking and quit straight away. i dont drink now. now 9wks and baby is fine and growing well

for a while i was furious at pregnant women smoking and had a few confrontations where i threw away the cigarette they were smoking! ( i no its a bit much but...) i would go to the pub and id see them drinking and smoking. ihated them because i couldnt have a child and they could and were doing all they could to harm it!

for your colleuge get some smoking leaflets bout pregnancy and leave them on her desk when she next goes out and has a cig. it may change her mind bout her habit

Yes. They don't realize how selfish they are being. It's one thing to make a conscious decision to smoke - but condeming your baby like that is just sick. I'm sure there will come a time when expectant mothers could be charged for risking their childs well-being by consuming alcohol or cigarettes. They don't deserve to be pregnant!

Yes, my mom even admitted that she smoked while pregnant with me. But with all the new information out there I don't understand why. The most disgusting sight to see is someone noticeably pregnant with a cigarette hanging out of they're mouth.

Ok people this is just stupid. If you dont know what womens OB's tell them when they go in for their appts DONT critizise! I just recently had a baby. My doctor told me NOT to quite but to cut back. I cut myself back to about 2 cigarette's per day, if not less. My doctor told me that if I just quit cold turkey (or quit while I was preggo) it could cause stress to my child and I could lose him. So I dont want to hear that I dont have any will power or I'm uneducated or anything else along those lines. I dont care what you people think of me nor did I care what people thought when I was preggo and smoking. I did what my doctor told ME to do that was best for MY CHILD! Now I know that some doctors tell you have to quit right away, my cousins doctor did. Every doctor practaces different. So unless you know ALL the facts dont look down on someone for what they do. They may be doing what their doctor thinks is best. And Anniemac, I dont deserve to have my child since I did what what my doctor told me to do?!?!?! Besides smoking the little bit that I did while I was pregnant, I dont do anything that could cause harm to my son. I may not be the best parent, but no one is. Dont tell me that I dont deserve my son because of what my doctor told me to do. I love my son with all my heart and would stand in front of a trian for him. By the way I delivered a healthy baby boy. Nothing wrong with him at all.

I don't know how they do it. Not only is it harmful to the baby and her smoke stinks ecspecially when you are pregnant. My husband smokes outside and now that I am pregnant I smell it like he smokes right next to me it is awful. Hopefully since I am pregnant and can't take the smell he will try to stop.
