They most likely will not be able to pierce you with a plastic post. you probably have to replace it yourself afterwards. Have you had your tongue pierced before? I was having allergic reactions w/metal myself on my ears, eyebrow & bellybutton. But I did my tongue & didnt have any problems. I just made sure I used Listerine after every meal. Ask your piercer if he has titanium posts. Those dont cause as many infections I hear.

Plastic isn't a good idea for a tongue piercing. It can easily break and plastic is a porous material that harvest germs and bacteria. So you would be at a high risk for infections and bad breath.

You might be allergic to cheap metals or those containing nickle. Usually people who are sensitive to metal never have a problem with titanium.

If you really want it done, go for allergy testing and talk with your doctor. For now, I would hold off on the piercing, but if you get it...really consider titanium.

The metal that is used is surgical staineless steel. Do you have a problem with that? I have never heard of the actual bar of the barbell being plastic. You can get plastic balls, which you really should, it saves on chiping your teeth on the metal balls. Call around and check to see if it can be done this way. I have had my tounge pierced for six years now.

Piercers use surgical steel or titanium. Most people have no problem with those two metals. Long term studies have shown that the body does not react at all to titanium when used inside the body, such as pinning and plating bones. However, I have had surgical steel and gold for my ears, and titanium for my body piercings. The surgical steel in me ears always got infected, and the titanium never healed. Gold in my ears has stayed in with no problems.

The piece is usually sterling silver... You can purchase a Gold one if u wish. I know they do make barbells that are plastic... for X-Ray purpouses... Maybe they can pierce it and you can wait a few days and swap it with the plastic one.

unfortunatly they are unable to pierce with plastic, but you can change it after about 2 weeks. they don't pierce with plaxtic because it is easily broken and too soft to hold the piercing in. and they use surgical steel.

You can use rings made of titanium. It's the best for allergic people. Ask your "piercer"!!!
