Rather than put a rainbow sticker on your car and have to worry about whether you're sending out the wrong signal, why don't you put the Human Rights campaign sticker on it instead. If you've never seen it, it's a yellow equal sign (=) on a blue background.
Read more about the Human Rights campaign on their website.
It may be just what you're looking for.

Of course it is ok to put a pride sticker on your car. Be prepared to get a lot of smiles and nods from some people, some self-righteous clucking from others, a little hatred, and have answers ready for some potentially uncomfortable questions. In other words, get ready for a small sampling of gay life.
Your kids won't notice or care depending on their age, and in the end years from now will thank you.
30+ years ago my mother had anti-Viet Nam and Black pride stickers on our 1969 Chevy Nova (we are white). Today I am proud to be able to say that I was raised in an environment that taught me to be proud of what I believe and to work (even in small ways) for the greater good.

yes a pride sticker is appropriate
it does not have to say "I'm gay and proud" a simple rainbow or a red ribbon or you can get a sticker that reflects you views on equal rights for gay people
your kids are a consideration are you out to them?
are they old enough to withstand public school hazing for your sexual orientation? showing your pride should not negatively effect your children while betraying your pride will cause them equall harm as they have the right to know you as whole person not just there mom.
find the balance

Dear Allie
If your children's okay with the idea, go for it.
It is great that you support equal rights!
Am so proud of you.
Then again, if you feel that your children suffer because of the sticker don't put it on the car. Rather just use the Internet or so.
Good Luck!!
Allie. I do love this woman, and i don't know how to act on her body language and flirtation. I am all thumbs. ;-)

For the kids sake I would say no. You dont have to tell the whole world to be proud. Not sayin u should be ashamed but it might cause problems at school for your kids.

I think the first thing you need to think about is how it might effecct your kids. If they are Ok with it I'd go for it. I'm straight but have several gay/lesbian friends and I'm proud of hem

As the kids - if they're happy with it then yes - otherwise, I'd use the better part of valour.
