Green Lantern- his power is limitedonly by his mind, and he deals with problems and menaces on a cosmic scale- one guy having to patrol a sector of space containing thousands of planets!!! Most heroes have a rough enough time with one little earth! So GL is my favorite.
Props to Batman & Captain America for being the guys with no special powers who really define what it means to be a hero, though. Both the JLA and Avengers are the best because of what those two guys bring to the teams.

Batman: he has no powers yet the most powerful superheroes (Superman included) respect him out of fear for his abilities to take them down!

Dr. Doom
He has done more good for his comic world than superman.
When he controlled the world he brought about utopia, no crime, no war, no poverty.
He tricked the devil mephisto into releasing his mother's soul.
He defeated reed richards by proving himself the better scientist as reed's wife is a living testament to doom's superiority. Doom cured her when reed was unable to save her life.
Doom has had more torment than any other character, is better written and more fleshed out than any other character that originated in comics. Truly one of if not the only comic character comparable to those of classic literature in greatness.
Doom is who he is through sheer force of will and desire. He was not born a god, or an alien, but through his sheer intellect and willpower he became more powerfull and greater than both.

i have to say that I have always loved the caped crusader, the man in the mask, the big guy with the little ears, and the best damn utility belt ever!!!! Batman is doing quite well with another movie due out sometime next year. I guess "Begins" put him back into peoples' hearts
