We have four kids and a large conversion van. My husband wrecked his car last night and we now need a new car. We would like a car that will fit everyone, so we are never stuck without transportation. He has a long commute, so we would rather not get a minivan. Any ideas? We live in Chicago, so it needs to be a car we can purchase here in the US. Thanks!

Hi, Ford and GM still make cars with front bench seats that you can use to put three people in each row of the car, if you want a car for those few times when you need to fit six. The Ford Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town car have seating for six, and the GM makes the Cadillac DTS.

Otherwise, a minivan really is the best choice, but if you don't want one, an SUV with seven seat capacity is going to be as close as you can get - they tend to go from 5 seat to 7 seat these days.

There are lots of SUVs that will seat 7, although with third-row seating. Those third row seats are usually only good for small kids, so if your family is more grown up, it will not be a pleasant ride.

The Audi Q7 is the latest greatest, but it huge and expensive. The Chevy Suburban, Ford Expedition, and Mazda CX-9 are also good large SUVs that just got new designs.

Other nice choices are the Cadillax SRX, which is a mid size SUV, and the Mazda CX-7, Ford Fusion, and Acura MDX.

There are tons of SUVs to choose form - try http://www.edmunds.com and look at the SUVs to get a better idea.

The Mazda 5 is smaller than a minivan (it's similar to the Toyota Matrix), has sliding doors on both sides like a minivan, is a 4 cylinder (minivans are usually at least 6), and has 3 rows of seats that seat 6. I haven't read any reviews on it, it's a fairly new vehicle but it sounds like it's just what you're looking for.

Older Cars that have a solid seat across the front. Like Chevy Lumina, Cadalliacs, and several older more "luxury" cars, keep in mind you can pick up cadalliacs inexpensively from little old ladies who are giving up driving!

Most full size vehicles will seat 6, 3 in front, 3 in back. Look to perhaps a Buick if you like GM, the LeSabre is nice.

Sure you could try an extended version SUV like a Tahoe or Excursion. These types of truck have a third row seat.

My mom has a Dodge Durango and I love driving it. It has a V8...lots of pulling power and comfortably seats 7.
