I've heard some argue that the ACLU supports NAMBLA, but the only reason why they represented NAMBLA is because they were defending NAMBLA's right to assemble, which is protected by the First Amendment. Also, some conservatives may be interested to know that the ACLU has actually represented Jerry Falwell, of all people, on at least one occasion.

The ACLU does NOT support pedophilia. It supports civil rights. It doesn't support racism, either, but it has supported the KKK's First Amendment rights, because the Constitution applies to EVERYONE, including those with whom we strongly disagree.

The ACLU supports people's rights, not the people themselves. Some people seem to have a problem grasping that concept.
"In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the state and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the assistance of counsel for his defense."
Everyone is entitled to legal representation, guilty or not. It is the basis of our legal system.
The logic people are using above this answer is flawed. I support the Constitution. The Constitution, when written, supported slavery. Do I support suddenly support slavery? No. It is possible to support the rights of a person or group but not support everything they say.
Of course, we could use their logic and say they support Bush, whose wife killed someone when she was younger with her car, so they must support vehicular manslaughter.

Using the logic that some people have put forth, several country's governments support terrorism by supporting a democratic trial for war crimes committed by Saddam Hussein. The ACLU stands up for civil rights - it does not support the individual or the specific group, but the right for any group or individual to be treated equally. Without the ACLU segregation and poll taxes would still exist.
As long as members of NAMBLA or the KKK do not break a law, they have the right to assemble. Once they do, they will be prosecuted just as any other person would be for committing a similar offense. I, personally, don't support either organization, but they have just as much a right to exist. This is the freedom that we tout so highly to other nations - there's a dark side to it, but without it we enter into a theocratic dictatorship.

The ACLU represented NAMBLA in a lawsuit by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Curley that claimed That NAMBLA was responsible for the rape and death of their son committed by Charles Jaynes and Salvatore Sicari because Jaynes was driven by the literature and website of NAMBLA.

Isn't it interesting that the ACLU supports NAMBL's First Amendment right to assemble, while they are strangely silent about our Second Amendment right (the Right to Keep and Bear Arms). It seems to me that the agenda of the left is to promote irresponsible behavior and to repress freedom. You need to understand the difference between freedom and license. Freedom is the right to do as you choose in a responsible manner. License is the choice to do what you want regardless of the consequences.
Because liberals have traditionally been associated with the demands of homosexuals and transsexuals, it seems logical that they would support pedophilia. Where would you draw the line?

Not a lot of conservatives put Jerry Falwell on their list of important people so that doesn't hold water. The ACLU who has the right to assemble and speak supports NAMVLA and the liberals support the ACLU so it doesnt' take a rocket scientist to figure this one out. And you defending the ACLU on this makes me wonder about you.

Pedophilia and support of it are very devastating strikes to a person or party. Like pressure points, if you get a good one, you can cripple a party. The idea is to strike at a weak point and leave the party in their worst face before the competition.

the dislike crime label would desire to easily be used for crimes that in the time of touch an illogical DISlike for a particular team. Pedophilia looks to me to be an unnatural 'like' for a particular team, and subsequently isn't a hate crime. it particularly is, besides the fact that, a criminal offense even with the undeniable fact that, and merits harsh punishment. masking this with the 'hate crime' cover might dilute the meaning of hate crimes. Conversely, i do no longer think that pedophiles would desire to be risk-free by employing hate crime law, the two.

Conservatives, for all their bluster about being patriotic, tend to favor more authoritarian and totalitarian powers in central government as they regard to people's individual rights.
The ACLU is all about individual liberties, but how can you be for totalitarianism and against individual liberties and freedom? It's kind of indefensible, so instead you have to demonize the ACLU.
This is old and tired (the accusations, that is), but you certainly seem to have a grip on the real issues.

Yes but Jerry Falwell may be annoying, but he's no pedophile. The liberal ACLU supports NAMBLA, how in the hell is that not supporting pedophilia? No one would support a group to assassinate the president, because it is illegal. So what makes child molesting weirdos any different?
For these reasons, there is NO MYTH that liberals support pedophilia. Hell, the liberal groups are supporting them now! What about that makes it a myth. And yes, they also support racists. That doesn't help their cause. To me it seems the ACLU is nothing more than soldier hating pedophile flag burning racists, because these are who they defend. ITS SICK

Sure, lets all get out there and support the right for pedophiles to assemble and network. They probably let each other know whose kids are available. Great Idea! It's no myth.
