To play for the most humor, try having someone return to the town he or she grew up in, but left to become successful. You could make it funny that now he thinks he's so smart, successful, etc., etc. But the people in the town knew him when he was a REAL LOSER in high school. You know the routine: Boy can't get a date in high school because he's fat or has acne or is a computer geek or all three...Then he comes back success, slim and handsome, but he still doesn't win with the people who have known him all his life...Or you could make that after he returns and gets revenge on the bully who made his life a misery all those years ago...Either way, you could make it very funny! To spice up the humour, try throwing in a geek joke or some overt humor. Take a look at:

Hope you get an A*

How about a story about someone who had to write a story, but didn`t have any ideas of his own, so he sat at his magic keyboard and sent out a message around the world asking for ideas. When he got all the ideas to-gether, he wondered why on earth he ever thought that he would get sensible suggestions from people. Especially as he had already implied that he thought they would give him stupid ideas, AND he actually threatened them in advance. I think that this would make a really spiv-ing and exciting story.

Perhaps you could write the happenings of a library book as it is returned from one borrower to another. It could include the events in each persons life but always from the library books point of view, an interesting concept with enough thought.

How about a family waiting for a son or daughter to return home. The humour could be about their eventful journey home.
Did you ever watch Planes, Trains and Automobiles with John Candy? That sort of thing.

Write about an old concert shirt, and it's travels as it gets lost, stolen, sold in a garage sale, given away, etc and finds it's way back to the original owner by way of a child/grandchild that buys it at a vintage clothing store.

Returning a product a customer bought at a store, but they wont take it back and all hell breaks loose when he take matters into his own hands. A comedy about store employees, management, bad store return policies and a disgruntled customer who wants a refund on his returned product, but cant get it and wants revenge. Could be a movie ...hmmm

How about someone who comes home having been missing for ten years cause they had amnesia?
You could tell it from their point of view - all about what they got up to, and their family's point of view about what the person missed
Good luck with your story - sounds like fun :-)
