At university, I came to the conclusion that the proper work of a uni student was to write long and detailed reports describing exactly why the experiment failed. This is why I prefer descriptive or information-collecting science to experimental science.

Go away, have a break, coffee tea some nice biscuits. Relax and forget the problem for 5 - 10 mintues then come back.

The reason will usually jump up in front of you.

99% of experiments don't work. Just do it again, but change one thing at a time.

Although, if you're in a high school class where you don't have time to do it again...cange your data to what it is supposed to say :P

Backtrack to see if you performed each step properly if you did then probably the experiment was faulty.

Reconsider your hypothosis.Edison said he did no fail hundreds of times to invent the light bulb,only hundreds of ways not to.

find out what went wrong, and then change something, and try it again.

experiments NOT working can allow you to learn a lot as well
