Im sure the model is PHILIPS AX7201 and the head phone socket does not fit any regular headphones in it is far too small

It could be a 2.5mm jack instead of the standar 3.5mm jack. You can get adaptors in Maplins.

Are you sure the jack is smaller than the usual 1/8" stereo headphone jack? I have a new iPod shuffle (the one that's about the size of a matchbook) and it has a 1/8" stereo headphone jack. If you're not sure, best bet is to take your Discman to Radio Shack and ask them to find you a pair of headphones with the right-sized jack.
