Yes it is. Say you won one of the Lotteries. What would you do with it? (I'm talking about the big money, not the money that could help you get out of debt and help you get a better foothold for your future, since you only get less then half of anything you win) Would you help all your family members clear up their debts and pay off their houses and cars and give them an annual cut to keep them living a comfortable life. And find good charities or causes to donate too. Or find people who are honestly looking for help in improving there lives.
(If I could find a Rich person into philanthropy to help support me in a writing career it'd be wonderful. Since it's hard becoming a writer with a full time job and other commitments. So someone rich that believed in me and would be willing to help support me so I don't have to work would be nice. And they'd only have to do it until my books sold nicely enough that I could make a living writing.)
That's how I think when I dream about winning the lottery. Besides finally getting the Ranch and Horses I'd love to have. I think about helping my family and people struggling to make something out of their lives.
That's why I feel Greed is the root of all evil. But it's not wrong to be a little selfish if the amount of money you win is only enough to help yourself and immediate loved one out of the situation you find yourselves in.

Not greed, but something very close to greed -- SELFISHNESS. We all have to be selfish to a certain degree in order to survive, but people who commit crimes have taken selfishness to the next level. They believe that they can do or have whatever they want simply because it's what they want. People who have this mindset have absolutely no respect for authority, no respect for the law, and no respect for others. Their wants, needs, and desires always come first, and Heaven help anyone who tries to get between them and whatever they want. Can you say "God complex"?

Buddha answered this question several hundred years ago. The root of all evil is attachment from which springs desire. From desire - you have everything lust, greed, passion, and on and on it goes. Where it stops - nobody knows.

That's too simple. I'd also include fear and resentment. It's like Yoda said, "Negative emotions are the pathway to the Dark Side."
