Between Football and cricket it is football definitely... In cricket there are only 10 test playing nations... whereas there are around 162(I'm not sure about the exact figure) football playing nations recogonised by FIFA...This statement is self explanatory and i hope it answers your question...
But the most widely viewed sport is Formula 1 and moto gp racing... The reason cited is very simple... In many countries cricket may not be known and in some countries there may be little awareness for football... But in almost all the countries in the world, there are people driving and this is the reason which fascinated the people round the Globe to be attracted towards the motor Racing Sport...

No doubt about it that Football is the most popular game this world.
How many countries play the Cricket - may be10. But do you know how many countries play the football? Actually I also don't know but it is true that in football world cup , there are more than 100 countries play for qualifying.
Simply, it sows the popularity of football.
But I also want to tell you that Cricket is my favourite game.
