Yes, it's a lot easier, especially if you get an optical one as those will work on many surfaces.
Much as I dislike PC World for most things, they are very good with Mice and Keyboards as there's usually a display where you can try the mouse for how it feels, size etc...
Makes doing everything a lot faster - I really hate it when I can't use a scroll wheel now!

Just whatever you want to make it feel better.
Also, instead of having to buy a mouse and lug that around, consider using some kind of stylus instead of your finger. Like an ink pen you know is empty. You get better pressure and you are used to writing, so it should be easy to handle touching the pad and left/right buttons.
Try that for a while, if you still don't like it, then the mouse is a good idea.

I hate the touch pad and I'm not comfotable using the mini mice - just too small for my hand. These are personal prefernces. I know people who like both the mini mice and the touch pad. I use a regular size mouse with my laptop.

Touch pad is good training for travel: less stuff to cart around. Get used to it so's you don't have to pack the mouse! But sometimes, like when I'm drawing (doing pixel-level work on a .gif or .jpg) I find a mouse just about essential.

It's all up to personal preference. If you want a mini mouse for your laptop, by all means get one. They are usually very cheap $10-$15 or so.

Each to one's own preference. I can't abide the touch-pad so I have a small mouse that I picked up in PC World, bless 'em, that does the job beautifully for me. So much easier, quicker and more accurate, and I don't begrudge the little extra to pack & carry.

You can buy a mouse for your laptop. My wife couldn't get used to the touch pad, and she loves hers.

All the answers here are excellent and valid, but there is another issue. Sometimes if the scratchpad is sensitive as you scroll over a folder, it will pick up that folder and drop it anywhere, like another folder - then it's hunt the folder etc etc.
A mouse give you better control over what you pick up and where you drop it.
Have a good one.

I'd say it would yes, because I've got a laptop with a touch pad, and it can be a right problem sticking all the time and you cant move the curser!
