Anybody else have this problem? I feel like the very base of my tailbone is spreading apart....it is a raw type of pain. It is hard to even sit most of the time.

I had a cesarean, not a v-birth.....so I didn't damage it in childbirth.

You could have what is called a pylonidal cyst forming. It is very common and can happen with any kind of pressure for a long period of time on the tailbone, a fall on the tailbone, etc. If it is it will fill up with fluid (it will start out looking like a pimple at first) getting about the size of a golf ball. I had it happen to me when I fell on my tailbone several years ago. This is a common procedure we see alot in the OR. I went to my doctor to have it lanced (cut open and drained) but that didn't work so I had to have it surgically removed. It grows what are called fingers on the under the skin and all of those were not removed so I had to have the surgery again about 3 years later. My sister had it happen to her while she was pregnant from just sitting on it all the time and because of excess weight, this put a lot of pressure on it and caused the cyst to fill up. Everyone has it but it takes some kinf of trauma to the tailbone to cause it to fill up.

The pain you describe sounds like injury to the coccyx. The damage could have occurred during the time you were carrying a child, as well as during any contractions you may have experienced.

Have a look at the site on "coccyxdynia" (pain of the coccyx).

What if it's seriously damaged? Maybe you should go to the doctor and check it out, so that nothing bad happens. It'd be horrible to live with that pain for your whole life :[
