I have a 3 1/2 month old baby girl she weights almost 17lbs and is 25 3/4 inches long. This puts in her in the 97th percentile for weight and 95th percentile in height. So my question is since both are high percentiles don't they even out?

Just to add my husband is 6ft 5 and 280lbs and I think she has more of his "genes" than mine. I am 5ft 5 200lbs.

What the percentiles are isn't really a big issue UNLESS the percentile rating changes dramatically. My best friend's baby, for example, started the first few months of her life in the high 80's or low 90's percentile....she then dipped into the low 30's for weight, or something. Basically, the doctor was concerned about the dramatic change in her individual progress.
Anyway, I think what your asking is something like this: Is 17lbs in the 90th percentile for a 25 inch baby? And, I think you're right (if, in fact, that's what your asking...) Yes, 17 lbs is a big for a 3/12 month old, and yes, 25 3/4 inches is long for a 3 1/2 month old BUT.....I don't think 17 lbs is THAT big for a 25 3/4 inch baby...I think it does sort of "even it out" She sounds like a very well balanced and healthy baby!

(as an added fun fact--- my brother was 24 inches when he was BORN. TWO FEET!!! The nurse told my mother she had never seen such a long new born!)

Our doctor told us exactly the same thing that Natailie's doctor said. The actual percentiles are not the important thing, unless the baby is off the map. A drastic change in the percentiles might be cause for concern.

I wouldn't even worry at that age. My kids were both enormous. My son was 11 lbs 5oz when he was born. He's 2 now and still high on the height/weight, but he's about the same for both. The docs say not to worry; we keep him active and shy away from empty calorie snacks. My daughter is still off the charts for her height and in the 90's for her weight, but she is just 7 months. Same deal, so kids are just big, but as long as they stay healthy and active, there's no need to worry right now.

Yep, she's fine! I was 95th percentile in height and weight till my teenage years! Maybe she is going to be tall.
