What can I do? I woke up today to find my six month old flipped over (complete with swaddle, lol) and fast asleep. She has been sleeping on her back always because of the SIDS worry. I know at this age she isn't "out of the woods" yet but she is in the rolly phase...If she does sleep on her stomach it would alleviate the flat spot and the hairless area, which looks pretty weird..thanks!

Dont worry about it! I think now days people are too concerned with every little snip or detail. I mean I know they are your children and your gonna want the best and do all you can to give it to them. In the very early 90's it wasnt "Back To Sleep" it was lay them on there belly. A Doctor will tell you it is ok as soon as they have good head control and the strength to raise there head. They will do so as a natural reaction if unable to breath. That was what I was told about my first son who is 4 and my 4 month old baby. Think about this back when I was a baby my Mom sayd there were no car seats( I am 30 yrs old so this was in the 70's) so she would just lay me in the seat next to her and take off. I am not sure if car seats were just not mandatory or what but I am here alive and well 30 years later. So my point is in 10 years some Doctor somewhere may say " dont put your baby to sleep on there back, it's too dangerous" and then what? Your the Mommy and you know your baby better than anyone even a pediatrican, so you do what you think is right for your little tot. After all you know what is best for your baby even if the Doc agrees or disagrees with you at that moment it's up to Mommy, so just do your very best and all will be fine. Good Luck and enjoy every minute they grow sooooo fast!

They say if they can completely roll over on their own then it is ok. I recently read an article on SIDS, they also said that it can be benfecial for the baby to sleep with a binky b/c then they are not in as deep of a sleep, they are somewhat concentrating on sucking, so if they start to not breath they will wake up easier.

That spot on their heads is kinda weird!

You could always google SIDS or spell it out, you can probably find some helpful information that way, it will help put your mind at ease!

GOOD LUCK & HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

My daughter did the same thing when she was about 4-5 months old, she wouldn't stay on her back for anything. We tried one of those wedge looking things to keep her from rolling over but somehow she still managed to get there. I asked her pediatrician about this and she told me that it that is the way she wants to sleep that it would be fine as long as there wasn't fluffy pillows, blankets, stuffed toys, etc. in her crib with her because she might suffocate (which we all know already). So she slept on her side or her stomach and she is now 9 months old and still sleeps that way. She didn't get a flat spot or lose hair in the back of her head. So everything worked out for us and it will for you too.

Stop swaddling immediately!!! Once baby can roll she no longer needs to be swaddled and if you haven't done it already remove everything from her crib--blankets, bumper pads, etc. She is ok to sleep on her stomach now since she can roll. Continue putting her down on her back but if she flips over don't worry too much--it's normal and she's showing you she has the muscle strength to breathe on her tummy.

Nothing you can do about that. It will drive you crazy thinking about it at night and you'll never get any sleep because you will constantly be checking on her (been there done that!). Just make sure if you have a bumper in the crib that it is removed and don't put any stuffed animals or blankets in the bed. There's always something to worry about but she's getting bigger and more movement is on the way!

Dont worry too much, just turn her over if you see she has flipped but dont keep yourself up all night because of it. Putting her to play on her front will help her flat spot fill out. Also, dont leave her in a reclining bouncer or car seat for too long. The hair will grow back soon.

my doctor said to wait until she is rolling around fairly well or if she rolls to her belly on her own when in bed it would be fine, my first started turning on to her belly when she was in bed at about 3 months old and my second is 11 months old and I think she just prefers the back lol.

Once they start rolling over on their own its not such a problem. Sids happens because of underlying health problems.

Pediatricians recommend that we put them on their backs to sleep as newborns. But once they are old enough to roll over on their own, its safe if they want to sleep in that position.
