No, but National Insurance (this is the tax that is used to pay for the UK health service, social security and pensions) should be proportional to one's BMI (Body mass index). A person with a BMI of 16% or more (statistically) takes more time off work, utilises the health service far more than a slim one and are invariably greater recipients of benefits (DSWP statistics 2003) but does not live as long (Colida Insurance Statistics 2005). The former outweighs the latter so fat people take more out of the system than they put in and as it is often a matter of lifestyle choice, like smoking, rather than design so it would only be fair that proportionally fat people paid more into the system.
Research by the Sleep Apnoea association has found that rather than have a lower metabolic rate larger people have a higher rate due to the fact that their bodies are working less efficiently and need to work harder to sustain their bulk. The fact is that their calorific intake is greater and therefore they increase in size.
Do you think that a publically funded health service should have to support those who purposely have a diet that is detrimental to health or should they pay their fair dues rather than be subsidised by society?

I am overweight and at 62 have only been in hospital with meningitis when i was a skinny kid.
How many skinny people can say they reached my age without seeing a doctor.
My mother was very overweight and she died suddenly at 87 without ever being ill.
The whole theory that fat people use the NHS more is bullsh1t.
have you ever been to a hospital full of fat people. I think not.
If you think that you should only get what you pay for then,
how about people getting medical treatment according to how much tax they pay?
If on benefits the NHS stops seeing them.
Why should I pay for education?I don't have kids.
Why should people get tax credits? I never did,let them look after their own kids.
Jobseekers why ? I have always worked. Why should I pay for them let their parents pay.

READ this - this is a Correct Answer. Yes, there is TAX on overweight person(s), especially on "Air Flights", and many other forms of Transportation. This is Not an infringement on "heavy" people's rights, it is for the infringement heavy people place on the "average sized" person(s). I do believe that an overweight "person" now has to pay for 2 seats, instead of only 1. Taxing them more, No i totally disagree. But making them pay extra, for the Extra Room they take up is only fair.

Yes we should tax the fat. Anyone with a BMI of over 30 should be taxed as they are costing the NHS millions every year on obesity related illness (heart attacks, diabetes etc) It shouldn't just be limited to people though. There should be a "fat tax" on unhealthy food (junk food, processed food and drink etc) to discourage people from eating too much of it. With that in mind though, "healthy food" should be cheaper to enable poorer households to benefit

No. That's like saying should there be a tax on people who have disabilities. You are insulting. Maybe there should be a tax on people like you.
By the way I'm not fat and have no disabilities.

No, but there's a tax on just about everything else now so it will probably come in soon;
... and a tax on thin people,
... and a tax on tall people,
... and a tax on short people,
... and a tax on nookie,
... and a tax on breathing,
... and if you're a motorist as well it will be triple taxes all round.

you just asked this question to get a reaction, right? I mean, you can't honestly think there's a reason to tax fat people....... for what? Don't they already pay more for food, and bigger clothes cost more....... and if they can't fit in one seat on an airplane, they have to buy 2 seats......... so what's your point? that's like asking if runners should pay an extra air tax because running makes you take in more oxygen.

yes, as there should be a tax on ugly people and stupid people and rude people. While we're at it, we should tax chubby girls who wear clothes that show their podgy tums, stupid boys who wear dirty trainers and anyone who wears a Nike baseball cap. Let's also tax anyone called Sharon or Darren or Kylie.
Hmmm, I should be Chancellor, I'm having fun here
