Yeah and I yelled at him (Garfield!) and he climbed down and went into the kitchen and drank from his water bowl

It was a cold and blistery Christmas morning. The oil heat ran out the day before so layered in garage sale clothes, my two brothers and sister were huddled together in the same room to keep warm. From down the hall I could hear something moving about the house. A little scurrying here a little bump there and the shuffling of slipper clad feet over the cold kitchen floor. It was still dark out and my siblings had not yet stirred. I did not want to wake them yet. Let them peacefully sleep a little longer before facing yet another cold day where ice formed on the inside of the windows and down the windowsills.

As I lay there I wondered how or what we were going to share for breakfast or even what might be for dinner. We still had electric but the water pipes had frozen up. Thank goodness for the guy at the service station who let us fill about a dozen jugs with water the day before.

My attention was drawn back to the muffled noises in the kitchen. I had to go investigate. Sure enough it was grandma boiling water for us to wash up in. She also had 6 or 7 ceramic garage sale mugs all lined up with two tea bags to share for some hot tea.

In the fridge the dim light blanketed the sparse inhabitants of nearly empty shelves. But true to form there was grandmas pie!

Surprisingly the oven was cold but I could smell something in there. What could be in there besides the clothes we tried to dry out once in a while.

I peeked in the door and wow the biggest something I had ever seen was sitting there waiting to be cooked for our Christmas dinner.

So the rest of the family got up as dad was coming home from shoveling snow for a last few bucks till the new year came.

We had tea opened a couple of hand me down gifts and hand made crafts that the kids had made.

Before long it was dinner time. We sat down to a roasted animal of some sort. We were hungry and the subject never came up till a little later.

Apparently when my dad was getting the tree from the bog gs of south jersey he ran into a couple of muskrats. Don't say yuk till ya tried them.

Well I cant prove that they were actually in the tree but dad drug them in the house with the tree a few days earlier. They actually were good but as I remember a little fatty and a taste a little like a duck crossed with a chicken.

So we lived happily ever after. That was a wonderful Christmas!

Yup we had squirells in our tree 2 years in a row when I was growing up! and both times we not only had the squirell- but the cat chasing the squirel and the 3 dogs chaing after them.

Luckily my dad had wired the tree to the wall and ceiling or we would have had a huge mess lol.

Yes one morning I came into the living room and it was just too quiet. I went over to the tree to admire the decorations and felt like someone was watching me. There half way up was my cat Sugar. She was in the tree so you could just see her sweet face. It looked like an ornament. Getting her out was quite a feat!! Now I have four cats and put jingle bells around the bottom to warn me of cat activity!!!

No, but last year we had three birds' nests. Two we found immediately, and the other was a surprise later.

A spider once. I also found a birds nest (empty) a few years ago and still have it.
