I guess I've never experienced dating a cross dresser, but how are gender roles defined. Is it based on the biological gender of the people dating or what the gender the person is portraying? Thank you for helping to culture me. ;)

Cross dressers are really "into" the gender ID they are portraying. They really do "feel the part" and so if the goal is romance, opposition to their portrayed gender would be necessary for success. On the other hand, if friendship or fun is all that's on the agenda? Mutual gender play or agreement is courteous and fun.

Good luck!

I have no idea. I have seen only a few of those couples, and each was different. I think it must be similar to the gender roles of a heterosexual relationship. Yes, the genitalia has something to so with it, but it's more about the dominant personality.

Hell, I don't know. How do homosexuals determine the gender roles in a relationship? What is the purpose of a gender role, anyway, and why does anyone care about someone else's opinion of their sexuality is?

No. you're attempting to generalize the place regulations do no longer exist. some men gown like women people. some do no longer. No rule, good? some men who gown like women people are redefining their gender place, some are not. No rule. wish that facilitates.

Gender is crap. Honestly, discuss it with him/her, and ask.
If I were in your shoes, I would follow any gender roles, just go with it and you'll fit in to wherever you're going to fit.

i dont date the "opposite" sex from what i "portray". i am a Tgirl (mtf pre op TS). once i have my completion surgery, i will "identify" myself as lesbian, but i will date only very selectively and then only within a close circle of friends.
