So true! I groom countless Precious, Princess, FiFi and Angel's who are down right nasty. Then the ones named Cujo, Killer and Chewy are sweet as can be.
I really think it has to do with the owner. Usually (but not always) the "fru fru" named dogs have the kind of owner who spoils the dog rotten. They carry it everywhere, don't train it, or correct any bad behavior, let it "rule" the house etc etc.

O my gosh I know exactly what you are talking about. My cousin has a daschund named Sweetie. That is the meanest little dog I have ever met. I think it might have to do with the way you say the name. Sweet name you say in a sweet voice. and vice versa. So Im not totally for sure but that would be my guess.

You've got a good point, I got my puppy recently and called him Lemmy after the Motorhead front man coz he's going to be a mean rough looking fucker. He's an English Bull Terrier and he's like Jaws with legs he's hanging off everything kinda want to change his name to Sid (Vicious). We've got another one called Lilly and she's a real softie, bit manic though!

My husband's ex left her hamster when they split. She called him Bubbles, but he nicknamed her Evil. The thing was called Evil until it died at the ripe old age of two and a half. God I hated it, it used to bite, eat and sleep, pretty much like all hamsters!

My parents have a pit bull named Storm. She's deaf. You can call her anything you want and she'll just wag her tail. lol It's great! lol
But, she is the sweetest and least destructive animal I've ever met. She's aways concerned about pleasing my dad and would never do anything that makes him upset. When she does, she pouts. It's rather funny.

Maybe it's peoples' love of irony. It works with nicknames for us too - like someone with straight or no hair being called Curly and someone big being called Tiny etc

rebelling against the silly names you give 'em
I think you should get to know a pet (and even a baby) before you name them
