Look, we achieved our objective: To topple Saddam and give them a new government. But it's now an occupation, and we should not be an occupier, especially when the people do not want us there. It's up to them to police their country.

We attacked a country that had not attacked us first, and we did this without a declaration of war. Why is this? The answer is because we are involved in foreign entanglements, particularly, the United Nations. We are the the enforcers of the UN, rather than being the sovereign nations everybody thinks we are. As long as we belong to the UN, or get involved in interlocking treaties, we will be pulled into foreign wars.
War is sometimes necessary, like when a nation is attacked. But when our politicians tell us we attack another country without a declaration of war because it is in our national interest, the question should be, exactly WHOSE interest are we speaking of?
The war in Iraq does many things, none of which are good. Saddam was a thug and a murderer, but most politicians are, or would be if it were necessary. The war in Iraq reinvigorated the idea of an all powerful UN, and that should put the fear of God in you. The UN does not recognize our Constitutional Rights. The UN thinks of itself as over all the nations of the planet.
You either have allegiance to the US or to the UN. No man can serve two masters.

Dustin - I see what you're saying, and I think that what Mr. Gates said to the Senate yesterday sums it up; "We're not winning the war in Iraq."
If we don't win Iraq, there is no winning a war on terror. So, basically, we've spent an aimless three years in a country we know and knew nothing about, spending billions of dollars, and for what?
I would say that, within the next two years, if Iraq is not peacefully governing themselves and our troops are not home, then all is probably lost. War on terror is pretty vague anyway, because you don't know who the terrorists are. They could be your neighbor, your girlfriend, the President of the United States, whatever. No one knows. They look the same as the next guy. They dress the same (no uniforms), and they hide their roles well.
I think that what we need to fess up to is that Bush made some grave mistakes, overcommitted troops to a cause that is not tangible, and to a situation we cannot win. In my opinion - it's time to pull out and leave the Middle East to its own devices.
