I want to become a highschool English teacher in Wisconsin, but am discovering that Wisconsin is a rather difficult state to become a teacher in. I can't easily afford to accomodate a 20+ hour block of time to be down on a college campus pursuing a degree in the middle of the work week. I do already have a bachelors degree in Journalism and a minor in English from UW-Milwaukee so it is just the "teaching" aspect that I would need credits in. If anyone else has recently become a teacher in Wisconsin or knows any way to expedite the process, please let me know

I'm from WI and went through the same situation as you a while back. I know of no online source for obtaining a Teaching Certification in WI. Colleges like to see their students as part of the evaluation process. Cardinal Stritch will work with you as a part time student but ultimately, you have to commit. This can be upsetting but don't be discouraged. The jobs are out there as people retire and teaching does provide a good and rewarding life.

Western Governors University, where I am currently an online student getting a teaching degree, is accepted by Wisconsin. Since you already have a degree you will only need to get certification. It is a wonderful University, with a state of the art learning model, and the only online school with NCATE certification. Check it out and I hope all goes well for you.

Since you already have a degree just go down and get your teaching license. Teaching does not require a "Teaching Degree" It only requires your degree is at a certain level. Check with your state regulative board and see what is required for you to take your board exams. You should not have to go to College.
for someone with a degree you aren't too bright are you?

Have you tried the University of Phoenix online? I am going there to finish my accounting degree and it's awesome. I can sit in class in my PJ's at home.....it's much better than going to a traditional classroom!
