When a court case file says "open" - it means judgement was not made and the case is still open. When it's closed - there has been a judgement made and it is dismissed. What does it mean when it says "Filed Only" ?

yes " filed only" simply indicates that the case is still active.

Filed only - no action has been taken or needs to be taken...action is pending, waiting to proceed etc.

Such a file can be placed as closed once it has been determined that no further pursuit of the case is or will be necessary for whatever reason.

As an example, I had a lawsuit filed against a firm and the suit was filed only...the lawyer didn't proceed with action due to the fact she was gathering additional information that could possibly change the decision to sue. i.e. the firm was prepared to settle without further problems etc.

The case was settled "out of court" which voided the need to have the lawsuit go forward...therefore this made the "Filed only" lawsuit transfer to a "Closed" file with no further action required.

It just means that the case has not been looked at yet and that someone still has to look it over.
