It has been argued that altought we had committed enough troops to topple Saddam, we did not commit enough troops and equipment to establish the peace in Iraq.
Whether or not the Iraq invasion was right or wrong, we are there. And, we need to establish law and order within the Iraqi borders. Isn't it time we consider increased troop and equipment levels to stop the civil violence, secure Iraqi borders, and rebuild the country's economy?
Training Iraqi security forces will take years. The Bush administration hope of having Iraqi forces trained and in place is not going to happen any time soon. Rather than withdraw and leave the Iraqi people with an all out civil war, shouldn't we make a serious commitment to establish peace?

Could not agree more. When you have to fight, you fight to win, not run away because it's too hard or not politically expedient to finish it. You stomp the stuffing out of the enemy until they can no longer get up. I will be very surprised if the next President were to make the decision to pack it in before it is finished. But then, letting career politicians choose battlefield strategy is foolish and we have done that in the past, so I guess anything is possible given some of the pinheads that might get elected. But I hope we ramp up the pressure and get the Iraqi Police Force cleaned up and operating properly. What we are seeing is somewhat to be expected at this point, the local government has only been up and running for 6 months, a little common sense and patience is needed now, making hotheaded decisions based on popular civilian opinion is strongly ill advised.

Funny, I just saw a report on the findings of the ISG and their final opinion doesn't vary a lot from the original plan. We shall see if rational thought and military strategy will reign here.

If we can train and arm and supply our troops in six months what is the hold up .
I have even heard that the ninety day wonders are back . Trained in three months and deployed . Maybe we could ship the trainees here and then send them back home to defend their own country . With all the Iraqi people in America already why are they not joining the military to go fight in there home land .
We had Germans who returned home to fight with Hitler during ww2 Why not recent Immigrants from Iraq . Seems like if a war is supported by the people it is meant to help then it would come to a swift end .
SO I conclude that the people do not want a war ,support the war ,or even care about the war .
This means it is time we leave and let allah sort it out .

Does anyone know how long the Shia and Sunnis have been at each other( hundreds of years ),and it took a person of Saddam's nature to qualm the violence between the two, some times, democracy is not what it takes to quiet a religious conflict.....

It's too late. The time to make a commitment was BEFORE the insurgency got out of hand-- the insurgency that both Cheney and Rumsfeld were sure wouldn't happen.

If we leave Iraq, things might actually get better. Our presence there is creating the insurgency that we're staying to prevent.

Enough is enough! How about we clean up our own backyard. Withdraw all the troops from Iraq and send them to the mexican and canadian borders!

the problem is that we are almost doing it ourselves, yes law and order needs to be established before we leave, but how this country is thinking now, it probably wont happen and things will worsen
