Honey - Please don't buy any women an engagement ring anywhere but a jewelry store. She doesn't want a ring that someone else has worn before her. It's a symbol of love - don't try to be cheap this time - she'll know.

None of the above. DEFINITELY NOT eBay. I only buy DVDs on there because I've learned how to hunt out legitimate sellers. Don't have much experience with Bidz, and a pawn shop??!? Come on now... I'm nowhere near conservative, but you shouldn't be getting an engagement ring at a pawn shop. Maybe you should reevaluate whether you're ready to be engaged...

JEWELRY STORE. Trust me ( I just got engaged) And while the ring doesn't have to cost you 3 months salary, you will find a better quality ring in a reputable jewelry store and its less risky than searching for one on Ebay or Bidz.
If finances are an issue Kay Jewelers has several very nice engagement rings for under $500. My fiance got me a ring from JB Robinson for a very reasonable price... and the ring is gorgeous!
If your fiance is artsy you might try an antique shop or pawn shop, but to be honest I would go with a jewelry store.
Hope this helps!

Here's a great way to do it. It's very inexpensive and she gets the ring she really wants.
Find a relative on either your or her side who has an old ring, earring, etc. that they'd be willing to donate to the cause and have the diamond(s) put into a new setting.
Take the donated jewelry to a local manufacturing jeweler (someone who makes jewelry), and you'll only have to pay for the gold and labor of having the stone re-set. The extra added bonus is that the stone is also a family heirloom and will carry extra meaning because it belonged to a loved one.
My husband did this, and I ended up with a completely original ring - hand engraved art deco style - with a weird old diamond from my grandmother, and it only cost about $600 to make.
**A note to those who disdain "used" jewelry...**
Diamond mines are essentially slave pits. They workers are treated worse than pack animals, and sadly it's the only work in the area, because the companies that mine in the areas (primarily in Africa) don't invest in the local communities. Every new diamond you buy perpetuates this human misery.
Since gold, platinum and diamonds are pretty much infinitely recyclable, why not recylcle them? It's not a matter of being "cheap" if the materials are of high quality and the ring is in a style that his future fiancee will appreciate.

Jewelry store! You don't want to buy a diamond without getting a chance to really see and examine it, and pawn stores can't guarantee that you're getting a real or a quality diamond. If price is why you're thinking of these places, you can get a less expensive ring sometimes if you purchase the stone and the setting separately, and get the jeweler to mount it for you. Also, many jewelry stores carry "used" jewelry sold to them by trusted customers, and will sell those at a discount. Go in there and ask.

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING ON BIDZ!!!! I bought a diamond ring and a mans watch on there about a year ago and it wasnt even worth the shipping. Try a pawn shop first since you will be able to see it first hand. Wal Mart even has some nice rings if your budget is tight.

I wouldn't recommend eBay. Unless you're very familiar with bidding and you're educated in what to look for in diamonds, I'd avoid any online bidding sites. And even then, the chance of getting ripped off are still rather high. Pawn shops are okay. If you're on a budget, I'd recommend "jewelry exchange" shops or even Jared.

um are you kidding?
try going to the mall and going to a jewelry store....
not a freaking pawn shop....the ring should not be used unless it was a family ring....and even then...every girl deserves her own ring..not some used not good enough ring for some other woman so it ended up on the net or in a pawn shop...
gahhh.
if you get the girl a used ring I hope she says no.

Best way: Go into a jeweler. I wouldnt trust internet purchases for rings. Maybe just to look at...but you'd want to go into a store and actually hold it in your hands before you put any money down.
