I have a big fluffy Wilsons leather jacket, I really like it..but last year my cat decided to pee on it.

It smelled horrible so we stuck it in a garbage bag and planned on taking it to the cleaners to see if there was anything they could do. Well, it ended up just getting shoved away with the Christmas stuff which is how I found it today.

There is no visible damage to it, but it still smells. The coat says to take it to a "special leather cleaner only" ..what does that mean?

Can my coat even be saved?

There is only one way to find out, take it to the dry cleaner.

And (now I am putting my Mom hat on) if you had hung it up, it would not have happened!

First of all you have 2 male kittens which may be competing for the "Alpha Male" position and even though they are neutered they can still spray if the gland was not taken during the procedure. [the vet has one shot at it] Second the above being said, you should clean and sanitize the area. Try this mixture Mix 1 part Lavender essential oil 1 part Rosemary essential oil wipe the area 2 times a day for a week, then wipe once a day for a week then apply it once a week after that. Both lavender and rosemary oil are antibacterial and disinfectants so if you use this it will smell better and disinfect it as well. The odor seems to detour most male cats. {Test it on the leather, it shouldn't bother it but test it first.} I have used Natures Miracle and this worked better....you can also add a few drops of Thyme to the mixture too if you really want to make it stronger. This worked for me I have a 7 year old male neutered ragdoll cat and he peed on my favorite chair when we introduced a new pet to the family by using this mixture he stopped but this brings up my third point If you have changed the kittens routine, your routine or introduced something different to your home this could be a way of them dealing with the change. Cats do not like change, they like everything set the way it is and no changing it....my cat gets upset when I move the furniture and won' t talk to me for a day or two but gets over it.... fourth it could be stones or crystals in the urethra, this is caused from eating foods high in ash and in mostly males. Check for blood in the urine and watch to see if he is acting moody or tired if so take him directly to the vet...you can also feel on his belly close to his private part, it will appear hard then you know that the chances of him having stones or crystals in the urethra are possible. Good luck I sure hope this helps

Nature’s Miracle should work. It is available at Petsmart. Make sure you follow the direction. The main reason that it fails is that people just sprays it on and wipe it up and not let it soak into the carpet like the urine did. You my need to do this 2 or 3 time. Just reminder that the urine treatment product needs to go where the urine went for it to work properly.
In my experience, Nature's Miracle is your best bet. Good luck!

If you don't want to take it to the dry cleaner

Remember many times home cleaners will change the color of the leather. Always test in an inconspicuous spot on the fabric.

Yes, ask at the store where you bought it, or check the yellow pages in your area. It is a process like dry cleaning that uses a special solvent and deodorizers designed for leather.
