Sometimes the body has a bit of clearout when going into labour and people can have runny stools or vomit - the hormone prostaglandin, which is involved in starting labour, also has the effect of making the bowel contract.

On the other hand, you could just have an upset stomach - 37 weeks is early, especially for a first baby (on average, first babies come 8 days past due date!).

Watch out for any other signs such as a "show" (mucous plug and slight bleeding) which might let you know things are on the move.

Have you been having Braxton Hicks (practise contractions) for the last few weeks as well? You do go to the loo alot before the baby is born because you don't have a lot of space for "Storage" but it can also happen when you are in labour. The feeling sick can also happen when you are in labour. The best indicator is if you feel the practise contractions getting stronger and longer - although admittedly for your first baby it may take a while.

The best advice anyone can give you if you feel you are in labour is to call your midwife. She won't mind talking to you about it or even coming out and examining you if you are worried.

Good Luck!

No this isn't common for labor. You can get loose stools if you are stressed or having some nerve problems. Which is likely with a new first baby on the way. I did that a week before my son was born because I was scared to death. I would have what people call a Nervous stomach. It could also be just changes going on with your body, with the baby moving down. If you get to concerned call your doctor and put your worries to rest.

It could be a sign of labor coming soon, but without other symptoms, it could also be just an upset tummy. Just keep about your daily business, take some walks, keep eating and drinking and get some rest in case labor is about to start. I emptied my bowels regularly for about a week before my labor started. It was pretty inconvenient. It also meant I needed to pay attention to my hydration. Good luck and happy birth wishes.

you could be in slow labour yes , this is designed to clear out your system before you go into labour so you can push without thinking you might poo (sorry)!
you don't need to have strong contractions either watch out for a show too (its like a plug for your cervix bit yukky to describe)you might just start getting pains in your back i had that with my second also if you can feel baby's head pressing right down take care hon let me know GOOD LUCK XX

Diarrhoea can be a sign of labour as your body clears itself out ready for what's to come, but in your case it sounds like you're just feeling a bit nervous. I was pretty nervous too as I came up to my due date and I thought every little twinge was a contraction, but when it finally did come it was pretty distinctive. The baby will come when sie's ready so just try not to worry too much.

No, this is not a sign of labour. Especially if the baby has been engaged for a few weeks.

Once upon a time the midwives used to give a woman an enema to clear herself out ready for labour...however they realised that most women naturally do this themselves by going to poo several times before the birth of their baby. I know this for a fact as this happened to me!
Good luck XX

While it's normal for some women to have extended bowel movements during early labour (for my second I practically did all my labour on the john!) unless you are having other symptoms of labour (i.e. water broken or labour pains), I'd say "no", this isn't labour...

It's tough to wait, isn't it! Hang in there.

Its sounds as if it could be the start of labour, it has something to do with the contractions that make you go to the toilet.
