We had to write three essays in english about Pride and Prejudice and I didn't think it would be hard because the first two were easy and now I'm stuck on this last one. I'm not asking you to write it for me, but PLEASE help me get started! It asks to discuss a chracter who plays a significant role in highlighting the values of the society because of race, gender, class, or creed. Please help me get started! Thank you all very much!

I would suggest that you go to chicago public library and borrow the DVD and / or video cassette of Pride and Predjudice and watch on your Tv and/or computer. You could also borrow the CD and listen to the book on your portable Cd player. I did this for my reading class and the result was remarkable. I never read the book finish but i was able to speak knowledgeably better about the characters than the bulk who actually read the book.

I love Pride & Prejudice---I think you could choose several different characters to outline those points. Personally, I would choose Mrs. Bennett's character. She really empitimized the class values and gender dileneations of the time: Marry for wealth, not love; women had to wed well to survive; women shouldn't value intelligence and wit.

She also was the typical Upper Class nitwit of the era--and her Husband Mr. Bennett also would speak to her idiocy. He loved his daughter Elizabeth so much, because she was the antithesis of what society TOLD women to be. Mr. Bennett seemingly regretted his marriage to Mrs. Bennett because it was so superficial...

Hope that helps!

Yes, Mrs. Bennett would be the best character for the reasons stated above. But remember not to judge too harshly! Today these ideas seem outdated but back then women really did have to secure a future for themselves through marriage.

personally i would write about the Gardners- the bennets aunt and uncle. they show what the society should really be like. they're good characters and showcase the right way to act for the classes. unfortunately it'll prob. be a very short sa if you just use them

The easiest (and cheesiest) character for you to use would be the ever brown-nosing Mr. Collins.
He is due to inherit the entire Bennet estate and yet is still a major sycophant to his Landlady.
