Absolutely. He invented many things that were truly ahead of his time. such as flying machines like a helicopter, a hang glider, a CVT or continulusly variable transmission, machine guns, armoured tanks, cluster bombs, a working parachute, a diving suit, a submarine, the first mechanical calculator. Those are just a few of his inventions. Not all of them worked in his time but have been later recreated from his journals and produced by IBM.

No, I disagree. He was a genius, true, but leader of inventions? No, he was one small part of the Renaissance era, which has given history many, many others of greater interest. DaVinci's true genius, in my opinion, was in getting history to notice him. The site below is filled with inventors, artists, writers, etc. Take a look, its really eye opening. Michaelangelo's architecture is still standing and inspiring awe, Shakespeare is still read and adapted today, though they weren't inventors, show me one "invention" of DaVincis that was used, enjoyed and stll remains.

The man was a genius, a true renaissance man. An artist and an inventor who had vision well beyond his time.

I like the way he broke into the morgue like a ghoul so he could dissect and draw cadavers.
