No to the socks, thats just weird. Cards and candy is good! Or make your own gift baskets!

Socks are a great idea but have you priced them lately? Socks can be expensive. Christmas shouldn't be about the presents anyway. I love candy canes!!! If you go to the dollar store where everything is a dollar you might find socks there. I am unemployed too!!! I know where you are coming from!!!

I think socks and candy canes are a great idea on a small budget. Just be sure pick out different cute socks for everyone so that they know you had the individual in mind when you bought them.

I think it really depends on the recipient. I love utilitarian gifts, however my husband hates utilitarian gifts. The best thing to do would be to get the socks, embroider a happy face on them, and stick a special note to each person in the sock... maybe a quote from a favorite person of yours or theirs, and follow it with why it's special to you or why you think of this quote when you think of this person. The absolute best gifts for the holiday season are gifts from the heart. If you don't really feel anything "warm and fuzzy" for someone, then a card just letting them know you are thinking of them is sufficient.

Remember, it's not the actual gift but the thought that counts. Good luck!

If the socks are cute or especialy soft/warm, go for it. Tie them and a candy cane together with a nice curly ribbon, maybe a note that says something like "Keep your tootsies toasty."

It's good of you to give something little instead of nothing at all in the face of financial difficulty (unlike some people I know). My recipients are getting small gifts too.

I think it's a cute idea! Put the candy cane and other goodies into the socks then attach a cute little card!

I say go for the cards and candy. I love socks too, but most people are particular about which type they buy. It is sort of personal, and a bit strange to recieve from someone (unless you are giving them to a person super close to you).

Yes if they go along with the season (not just "plain socks"), maybe slipper socks - there are some cute and offbeat ones around - they seem to be popular this year.
