Dear answers.yahoo helpers,
my 2000 honda accord ex-v6 (80K miles) has this misfire cylinder problem, showed check engine light so I got the OBDII done, codes were 0301, 0302, 0304, 0305, 0306, 0300, 1399...basically multiple cylinders misfired. This happens only during start, car runs fine once I shift to gear, doesn't seem to misfire while running. Can changing spark plugs resolve this? or could there be other issues, since it runs fine and has problems only during start, what else can be potentially bad? Please advise, thanks in advance.

Just a note to those reading - P0300 is a random cyl misfire general code. 301-06 are the individual cylinders where misfires have been recorded. 1399 is a Honda-specific code for cylinder misfire.

Changing spark plugs, while not a bad idea, will not fix this problem. A spark plug is either working properly or it isn't. To have it misfire at idle but not misfire under load and the fact that you have misfires nearly all cylinders tells me this is not a spark plug issue (one or two holes yes, but all six!?!?!?!?!).

The lack of other codes suggest a spark or fuel problem but then, why does it only occur at startup when not under load? Knock sensor perhaps? It may be reading a knock that isn't there which the PCM interprets as a misfire. MAF? At any rate, further, professional diagnostic is called for.

If you've never changed your plugs and wires i would start there, but you might have an air fuel mixture problem. This could be caused by a faulty sensor. But the OBD should detect a sensor problem. Try running a higher octane gas and use some LUCAS (or other brand but in my opinion lucas is the best) fuel system treatment to clean your motor out, just for a tank or two, even if this doesn't work it will be good for your fuel delivery system.

Mostly the spark plugs and wire. If you are worried about other things, then Just do a complete routine tune up.
They should change drive belt as well. and other minor stuff. it will cost you a lot if you go to a dealer. (350 at least) Try a good honest mechanics. Read the owner maintenance schedules to have some idea what needs to be done at what mileage. If you do not have one, try to find one in the dealer service.

The only thing that you can do is to take it in and get it scanned, either at a trusted shop or a store like Advance Auto.
Getting it scanned will prevent you from tossing money at it HOPING you get it right...

My guess would be a faulty (but not failed) crank position sensor
or coil pack.

Ask a machinic to change the plugs. and check that the las plugs were not cross threaded. you losing pressure on start.
