I absoutely love part 2 of his autobiography "Going Solo" about Dahl's experience as a British Air Force pilot stationed in Africa (he was working for the Shell oil company there and got drafted). it is just such a fantastic read!

My choice would be either 'Matilda' or 'James and the Giant Peach'... I've read a lot of his adult stuff, too- it gets a bit weird. I did like the one about the elevator that got stuck and the woman who intentionally left her husband in it... I can't remember the name- All the way to the top... or The Way to Heaven... or something...

Hard to say ... but not the Witches I'm afraid. I think James and the Giant Peach.
