Relax honey...most young women are apprehensive about their first pap test. It really is nothing to worry about. Most gynes are very good about giving a first test. They should walk you through the whole process as well. What is going to happen is that you will be placed in a room and given a paper gown. You will have to remove your clothes, obviously. Your doctor will then have you lie on your back and place you feet in the stirrups on the end of the table. The speculum that they use (thats what the tool is called, and it is not as large as you think), should be warmed. The doctor will use a small wooden stick, much like a tongue depressor, only smaller, and will scrape the lining of your cervix. He/or she may do an internal exam using one or two fingers, but this is only to make sure that everything is where it is supposed to be. Your virginity, (if you are still one) will not be compromised at all. The test is quick AND painless. In the unlikely event they find something, quick action will be taken to remedy the problem. Its something all we women have to go through. Have your mom or another trusted female go with you to help reduce the tension. Good luck honey, and remember, just relax. It will be over before you know it.

Are your ears pierced? It won't hurt any more than that and probably a lot less. I find the worst part about Pap smears is when the instrument to open your vagina is cold. That is uncomfortable. Ask your doctor to warm it first. The spreading the legs is a little embarrassing, but it is far preferable to having a doctor tell you you have cancer or an STD that is too far advanced to be cured because you didn't have a Pap smear to detect it early on. Once you have done it the first time, you will feel better about it. The unknown is always scary. But what you don't know (cancer) can kill you. So get your pap smear and just try to relax. If you are tense, it will be more uncomfortable. A good doctor will chat with you about school or whatever interests you, just to distract you. He will also tell you exactly what he is doing and will warn you if it will be uncomfortable. Relax!!

It's now not as dangerous as you feel. I used to be terrified while I used to be approximately to have my first pap smear, however I used to be making a miles larger deal approximately it than it used to be. It's relatively rapid and without doubt slightly uncomfortable. But it is anything that you can must do for the duration of your existence. Especially when you plan to have youngsters in the future. On a scale of a million-10 .....10 being terrible and a million being not anything, it is a two. Good success and dont fear your self ,it'll be over earlier than you understand it.

Pap smears dont hurt, they are just very uncomfortable. When you do go, make sure they use a plastic disposable speculum. (its the little instrument they use to "open you up"). Some offices still use metal ones, which means they are supposed to steralize them and reuse them. Some offices dont properly steralize, so make sure its a plastic one. Its normal to be nervous, but it only lasts a few minutes and you only have to go once a year.
O, if your a virgin you dont really have anything to worry about. It is very unlikely that you have anything.
And when you have sex, someone is opening your legs and putting a large (sometimes) thing inside of you. But you dont really hear anyone complaining about that!!

it won't hurt you, just a bit uncomfortable if you are not relaxed enough, which is quite normal if this is your first time. You shouldn't be nervous at all and not even afraid that they might find something, pray to god that if god forbid, they find anything you will not regret that you did not do your pap smear before.
Your mother is doing the right thing by you to push you into doing a smear, more so if you are sexually active. many sexually transmitted diseases can be traced by a smear test and then you would be able to cure it if you might had anything.

pap smears do not hurt. the first one you get may be a little weird b/c you don't know what to expect. mainly it just feels slightly cold and a little pressure but NO PAIN!
i always go to a female doctor to get my pap smears b/c i feel more comfortable. you may want to make sure you go to a female b/c it will ease you nervousness. also the pap smear only takes about 5-10 minutes so it is over before you know it.
good luck and don't worry!

It doesn't hurt it is just uncomfortable.
It is highly recommended that women recieve and annual pap test. Pap tests help detect cervical changes and can prevent cervical cancer and detect HPV.
If an abnormal pap occurs they will repeat the test before moving on to more serious measure. Many of my friends have recieved abnormal paps which turned out to be nothing. I wouldnt be afraid of it. Its a 5 mins procedure that could save your life.

No, pap smears don't hurt. The speculum the doctor uses comes in different sizes and he/she will use the one closest to the size of your vagina.
If something is found, you will be informed and it will be treated, but you probably have nothing to worry about.

A pap saved my life, please have one done. They don't hurt and if you're worried, have your Mom or friend come in the exam room with you. They won't see anything if they stand by your head (you are well covered while the Dr. is doing the exam. If they do find something wouldn't you rather know now then when it's too late?
