Is it wrong to shoot someone if they sell guns at the local Walmart?
Look if you want to steal stuff, then STEAL it! Just don't bore us with your lame a$$ed justifications. If you steal, then you are a criminal regardless of all the excuses you can come up with.

Why is it illegal or wrong to shoot people if they sell guns in stores? They sell you the tools even at Wal-mart! Don't you think that there may be a legal use for that "bootlegging" software? Like perhaps to rip songs off a CD you own and put it on your MP3 player? That's legal. It's only illegal to give it to someone who hasn't paid for the music.

The reason is because the software that comes on the computer can be used LEGALLY if you're burning cd's for your own use.
For example, it isn't illegal if you have bought 50 cd's and you're going on a road trip, and you take 5 songs from each of those cd's and make an mp3 cd full of all your favorite songs.
It is illegal however, if you buy a cd, and then load it onto your computer and make copies of it and sell those copies.
As far as the radio is concerned, artists and publishing companies PAY radio stations to play their music, so the public can hear their songs, and in turn buy their music

It's because people go nuts with intellectual property. Most intellectual property we buy usually has a FBI warning or license agreement like this: "NONCOMMERCIAL HOME USE ONLY. PUBLIC EXHIBITION CONSTITUTES A $250000 FINE AND 5 YEARS IN PRISON". If that was enforced, society would crumble because good schools wouldn't exist, and even letting someone that comes over to your house to listen to your music would make you arrested on sight.
It's the carnage that could uproot America if it was enforced. The little things we take for granted could really destroy us all and ruin all of society. A communist country could probably say "We told you so!", but communism doesn't work that well in its own ways.
If my idea of an all-open source world goes through, we could eliminate this problem, but we'd have to find a way to remove companies that hold the copyrights first. If we succeed, today's problems would disappear
Oh, and if Apple arrests me for putting iTunes music on my Palm using an iTunes loophole (Hey, it's legal to put it on an iPod, why not my Palm?), that will expose just how corrupt society is!
P.S. If it were illegal to record TV, why did the TV tuner equipped VCR and TiVo become something we take for granted???

yes, it's illegal. it was also not in good form to sell grateful dead shows, however it was customary to pay for blanks and postage back in the olden days before the internet and downloadable files. no respecting head would do "business" with someone selling shows.

it's illegal b/c the people dont get their money.
or something i have no idea.
Ive been downloading music since like, forever and I dont care that it's illegal. If it was concidered a heavy thing to do, they'd make kazaa, and limewire etc go out of buisness.

It is illegal, it isn't wrong unless you consider it stealing.
I don't believe in intellectual property.
The Radio gets to play music for everyone for free, why can't you.

That's illegal, too.
You can't justify stealing something by saying, "But the guy down the street steals, too!" Just because everyone is doing it, doesn't make it right.
