OK, maybe this is strange. I never put ANY thought into it until I was at a friends kitchen party with my mom. We were all talking when all of a sudden her dog started barking. My friend apologized to us, and asked her dog what was wrong. My mom said, "I"m sorry, I guess I got her riled up. She barked at me, so I barked back!" This didn't seem at all odd to me, except the looks on the other women's faces. . . I guess maybe it's all in what you're raised with???

Don't you know that they understand what we say?? Your Mom just made the dog upset by barking at it because the dog was telling her family Hey there is someone here !! I know the critters do understand what I say because I talk to the dogs and the cats well even the horses and they do what I say --like Sonny my horse for instance has this thing about coming in the barn at night and going into someone else stall to grab a bite of grain he knows he isn't supposed to do this and until I tell him to go home he will continue--I don't have to go get him just tell him --then the dogs when someone drives on to the property I tell them to go to the yard --just like you would tell a child --they go and wait behind the gate till told its OK to come out

Yeah I can bark like a dog. (really!) You get strange looks from other people AND dogs alike. Some dogs really go nuts and get really riled up. Loads of fun but definitely a trick to be used SPARINGLY!!

i bark like my dogs and meow like my cats but it is only when I'm playing with them or try to find them or trying to get the cats to follow me

i bark back at my dog. for some reason i don't meow at the cat,i simply ask "what do you want". i don't care what people think.
