i took my car in last week..it was mixing water in oil in the motor. the guy saids the heads blew. so i gave it to him cuz he said he could fix it. so i did and thru the week i got told that the heads were cracked..and the intake manifold needed to go to the machine shop. they got new bolts for it and new gaskets and new valves and did a tuneup, call me to get it, waited for an hr. watching them change mikshakey oil a couple of times and got told it couldn't start at first cause no pressure had been build up. well it finally started. and i paid them a crap load of money, drove 3 blks home and it got hot. next day was a sunday but i took it up there and left it. monday they see it, call me and ask me what up. i tell them it has the same prob. the oil and waters still mixing. they said they'll look at it again. call me 2 days later and say the block is cracked. it was internal and they didn't find it before. now, does this sound like BS. isn't it standard procedure and fairly simpletodo?

internal cracks in a block are difficult to see unless they had your engine out and stripped right down,if they only did the top end then they could have missed it.this is my opinion but with that much antifreeze in the crankcase i would have recommended pulling the pan as well and checking the brgs.
still depending on where the crack was it may not have been visible
good luck and maybe they will help you out some

Not necessarily something you'd see right off the bat, but definitely something that should have been looked for with all the other problems you had with it.

The first time the oil had water in it after all the repairs should have been a clue too, in my opinion.

And when they test drove it (which they should have done) and it got hot, that would have been another clue.

But, I wasn't there...what I'd suggest is to talk to him, calmly, and see if you can work something out that will get you a running car with a deal that will please you.

I've been turning wrenches for 28 years only seen one block cracked too were it was leaking into the oil. that was do to freezing i would pull all the spark plugs and pressurize the cooling system if the watter comes out one of the holes its not the block

Not necessarily. There could be several reasons why the water and oil were mixing. It's not standard but a good mechanic does it automatically.

they can be tough to find , get a short block and maybe he can cut you a deal on the install , hope you didn't chew him out too much . sounds like the coolant level and fluid checks have been neglected for a while. hope you get it all sorted out.

almost imposable to know if a block is cracked without having it magnafluxed or sonic tested. to do that you must remove motor and stripit down.. as them to get a junkyard motor ane fix it for no labor just parts...you have bad luck.sorry
