I have the tree in a large pot in my garden, and I am interested to know how I should make sure it gets through the winter with regards to pruning it, and protecting it - can anyone suggest anything? THANKS!!

I think it is the case that this tree will take care of you. It is the most resilient of the species and from my experience you do not have to take too much care of it whilst it is a pot

However, regarding pruning you will be advised to leave that until next spring as you may find that you will want to pot this tree out into your garden. Though spectacular to look at when blowing in the wind... looks amazing, as is the rate of growth. Which can be worrying.

All willows prefer wet conditions. You may want to consider planting it in the ground. If you enjoy potted willows, take cuttings and root them in water to put in pots.

They don't require pruning other than removing dead wood. After all, the striking part of the tree is the flowing branches blowing in the breeze.

Shouldn't need any protection, unless you live somewhere veryt cold and windy.
But it does grow very fast, is very vbrittle and constantly drops debris, so I would grow it as a coppice. Wait until established a few years, take a deep breath, and cut it down to about 6" in winter. If happy it will put on about 6' in hte next spring. Repeat every few years. Enjoy your trees
