Morocco is amazing, especially Marrakech!!!
Don't worry too much if you can't get a hotel right near everything. Taxi's are very cheap and also a hotel just a little further out would be cheaper.

I've found a receipt of the hotel we stayed in, it's called "Village de l'electricien". They have resorts all over Morocco and are very nice. They are usually for people who only worked for this company (hence the name) but if you know about it and go there they do allow tourists to stay. It was about £17 per night per room. Unfortunately there's no contact details on the receipt, I will try to google.

We also stayed at Kenza Hotel, about £25 per night per room (breakfast incl), lovely hotel and not far from the centre.

I haven't been to Marrakech, but the other places in Morocco had (a few years ago) pretty cheap hotels in general. Excepting of course, the 5-star places.
I think I stayed at a few places that were $20 (USD) a night or so.

Marrakech is amazing. All hotels are within walking distance of everything. I like the hotels in www.marocdreamer.com

Stay at CTM right in the heart of the medina. It overlooks the main square and has an awesome rooftop patio to just watch it all. Too much fun!!

Morocco is fantastic, you will have agreat time, check out www.asiarooms.com they have all star ratings, we stayed ay ryad mogador, £12 each for a double room, very basic but fits all your needs, right on edge of new town and old, supermarket next door etc. good luck

dont go to morocco, its an absolute hell hole of a place.
