I didnt think this was cute or funny, infact I told him this is a big insult and he got mad at me, I have seen this happen to 2 male friends of mine before and they were on the down-low, and never told anyone what they were secretly doing but died a few years later from Hiv and aids, what would you think and tell them if this was your friend..

I would not be offended at all.
Being desirable has nothing to do with having unsafe habits
and staying in the closet out of fear or shame does not have to mean unsafe sex. Being in the closet does limit ones exposure to the GLBT lifestyle and community.
My sex education came from with in that community not the mainstream system of health class and television.
I would tell my friend to be honored some one was attracted to them and I preach responsible sex to all my friends regardless of orientation.My friends who are sick and my friends who have died want me to educate others.My love for them prevents me from continuing the cycles of shame and secrets and sickness

Your friends who were being secretive about their sex lives were likely not being SAFE about it. That's the problem with people who think it's insulting - it makes it more difficult for people to admit what they're doing to friends, and to themselves, and encourages unsafe practices.

Angry and insulting reactions only encourage unsafe sex.

Anyhow, it's often seen as a complement among people who are confident in their sexuality, and polite people thank them politely and tell them, "Thank you, but I'm not interested."
