Seeing from your last question you are from the Watford/Hemel Hempstead area I will assume you live there. You could catch a National Express up to Durham. They are meant to have the best nightlife in the UK. You could go up to Whitby to see teh Dracula Experience or walk along the shore in the scenic Robin Hoods Bay. Stop by and visit York Minster and see the scenic medieval town.
If you wanted to go abroad there are cheap flight to Barcelona - great architecture, warm climate, wonderful medieval city, great night life.

Why not try Newcastle for a weekend away? It's the best shopping destination in the North East of England and has loads of cool things like The Angel of the North. Visit the River Tyne, Hadrian's Wall and the Central Arcade too. Now, since it's in the north, it's not too far to drive if you go on the motorway, but the two of you could also get cheap train tickets and thus get to Newcastle even faster. Return tickets for two people (Glasgow to Newcastle) are around £50 or so. Hotels can inexpensive in Newcastle if you look to the right places: for a weekend you can get a hotel room for 2 people for £150 at the Rex Hotel via Expedia (and pick up the nectar points too.) You can also check budget hotel chains like Premiere Inn to see what their prices are. Tips For Keeping Trips Cheap - Don't be tricked by restaurants. You don't have to have a starter, main course AND dessert if you want to, and don't be fooled by posh-sounding dishes. Often, restaurants give dishes French names to make them sound more luxurious and thus justify raising prices. So I advise you either go for a starter + main course or main course + dessert. And just because a waiter/waitress recommends a dish, don't feel forced to order it. Only tip the staff if you feel they've done a good job! - Plan everything in advance. Do your research, and find out if any hotels or restaurants are doing any special offers. Check websites as well that specialize in last minute holidays as you can make savings! - Embrace everything that is free - Sometimes the best things in life are free! Find out if any free events or festivals are happening. Go to museums or art galleries where it doesn't cost anything to visit. Check out public parks and have a picnic in the sunshine with stuff you've bought in the supermarket - much cheaper than expensive restaurants! - Shopping. Sometimes window shopping is just as fun as actually buying things. Strange, but true! Of course, go ahead to buy something you really want, but check markets for real bargains...you might be surprised! Good Luck!

Not knowing where you're starting from, I'll have to take a couple of shots in the dark. If you're in North America, there should be fairly cheap airfares to Las Vegas, which has a great restaurant scene and quite a few places where you can eat cheaply at casinos. You can find reasonably priced accommodations in Las Vegas, also.
If you can get to Charleston, SC or Savannah, GA easily/cheaply, those places have a lot to see and do, and the prices there are reasonable.
If you're in Europe, Turkey and Greece are fairly cheap now that it's the off-season for the tourist industry.
Also: see some great options from Garrett H, directly beneath this. Good ones, Garrett!

Where are you located? Here are my top towns for each quadrant, as far as ease of travel and low-cost:
South-
1. Asheville, NC-great eclectic town with low-cost bed & breakfasts; see the Biltmore Estate
2. Atlanta, GA-Go the Aquarium and see the Falcons play at the Dome
3. Chatanooga, TN-Excellent small town with great little boutiques to shop; another great aquarium
North-
Peterborough, NH-good bed & breakfasts; Dickensian (sp?) town in the winter; eclectic and nice folks
MidWest-
Santa Fe, NM and Tucson, AZ-Beautiful, underrated and inexpensive towns; scenery is gorgeous and prices are low catering to the senior set
Far West (CA)-
Stanford's campus and surrounding area (nothing like the bay area in all of the US)

Turn off the phone, tv, computer, cell phone, laptop and organizer. Send the kids and the car(s) to Grandma's house. Lock your doors and tell everyone you went to Australia. Hide under the blankets with a good book and a cup of hot chocolate. Have a good time!

I like to use MSN for this kind of thing. They always have articles.

Plus you have to visit your states visitors web site. You would be amazed at the things you have in your own back yard. It may not be all thrills but if you are just looking to get away it may be just what you need. Some of those sites have deals and cupons for people who live in the state and those who dont so you can take advantage of both. Enjoy!

Away from where? I like to head up to TurnerFalls in Oklahoma, but I'm in Dallas.
If you're in Seattle, it would turn into a very expensive trip.

Kansas City, Mo is great. There's plenty to do and it's not that expensive. Make a reservation near The Plaza and you'll have plenty to do.
