craigslist for stuff like that - since the buyers are local, you don't deal with any shipping costs or hassles. And there's the advantage of having them pay cash :)

Choose your state/region from the list on the right, then read or post ads...

Whatever you get for it will probably be an insult, I'm afraid. You might consider giving it to a local youth club or other worthy cause, and get the warm glow of having helped your community.

What I would say is, whatever you do with it, use one of the available "file-shredding" programs to destroy your data on the drive - deleting or formatting doesn't destroy this and some smart-**** might be able to resurrect any passwords, bank details, credit card info. etc that's on it.

I've just binned one with a defective drive and other problems that didn't make it worthwhile repairing, having first snaffled the RAM and various bits and pieces in case they come in handy, and then putting the hard-drive under a sledghammer to destroy the disks in the platter.

If its more than a couple years old, then don't even bother. Besides, you should never sell a computer that you have used. You may think you can wipe the hard drive, but if you EVER had personal information on the computer, an expert can find it.

Best thing to do is remove the hard drive and destroy it (research this on CNET.Com) the rest you can donate to Goodwill or have recycled.

Frankly, I doubt that you can, other than perhaps at a flea market. EBay would not be worth it, because you can't get but peanuts anyway, and the shipping charges would be prohibitive.

Around here we donate them to thrift shops just to avoid the cost of the land fill dumping. They sell them very cheap for poor people with kids who are disadvantaged at school if they don't have a computer at home. I recommend you donate it.

If you're getting a new one why not consider donating it to a school or youth group? Otherwise, list it in the classifieds in your local paper with the other outdated ones....perhaps yours has more for the buck than the rest....at any rate, hopefully, you will make a few bucks and someone who couldn't otherwise afford a pc will now have one.

quick sale try cash convertors. wont get much for it. if you have a 17 inch crt monitor or 19 inch you might get 35-50 quid for that alone. when my comp is obselete, 2 years or older i just overhaul the whole lot. keeping the tower and monitor. cheaper than buying a new computer with the same spec.

You can always try www.tazbar.com, it's a new auction website. Whatever you do, remember to remove the hard drive. Even if you've deleted all the information on it, computer experts would be able to recreate the data and discover personal information/passwords etc.

Classifieds in paper. Or take it to a store that will sell it on e-bay for you. That way you can get the most out of it w/o dealing with e-bay directly.

Are you in the UK? How about Loot - I think you can advertise on there for free - take a look at their website? How about your local newspaper or an advert in your local newsagents?
