The report contends the United States "cannot achieve its goals in the Mideast" unless it embarks on a "renewed and sustained commitment to a comprehensive peace plan on all fronts,"

"It's clear the Iraqi government will need U.S. assistance for some time to come, especially in carrying out new security responsibilities. Yet the U.S. must not make open-ended commitments to keep large numbers of troops deployed in Iraq."

Can any one say Vitenam # 2 our poor boys are going to be stuck there for ever.......

I can't remember a more purely partisan president in my lifetime (except for Nixon, perhaps) than the Great Decider and Divider. He has done nothing but demonize the Democratic Party for 6 years and now when the chickens come home to roost, he babbles about "pure political bickering". Give me a break. This is his own little personal war, him and Cheney, and they want us all to come up with the solution to get their butts off the hook.

And the sad part is we're going to have to. What a waste - 2900 troops killed, 22,000 wounded, thousands and thousands of innocent Iraqis killed for nothing.

The very worst president in history.

Forced change from an outside power, even to oppressed people, is considered to be interfering with their own sovereignty.

WMD, terrorist camps, etc. may not have been found, but the Iraqi masses now have an opportunity for a democratic society, but still some choose to fight it.

Obviously, the powers-that-be did not realize how strongly our military presence was going to be viewed as occupation. If we back off completely, things may resolve themselves like they did in Vietnam, which was, and is, not a good thing.

There must be a "middle-of-the road" approach to ensure that things don't get out of hand--a coup or ? But I believe that it is becoming apparent that our "occupation" of Iraq is blocking the road to democracy based on how it is perceived by the Iraqis.

Bush tends to categorize legitimate questions and concerns about his administration as petty bickering.

We'll be there for a long time after Dubya is gone.
