Typical facial cleansers are safe. However, there are certain acne medications that should not be used as they have been known to cause birth defects. If you are in doubt ask your OB.

Most facial cleansers are fine and perfectly safe, however make sure they do not have salicyilic acid in them ( Not sure if I spelled it right) But this can cause birth defects. Retin A is not safe. Just because you dont ingest it doesnt mean its safe. Putting certain things on the skin can be just as bad. Im sure you can find some information on the things I just gave you at http://babycenter.com. You can find just about anything there.

Yes, facial cleansers are safe during pregnancy. The ingredients that do absorb into the skin are not harmful to the developing baby.

Um no all these people are wrong. First off, when you put this on your skin, of course its absorbed into your skin therefor your blood which reaches the baby :) make sense? Second of all, there are SOME that are unsafe.Anything containing salicylic acid is unsafe. It has been known to cause mild birth defects. Also anything containing Tetracycline is unsafe.
IMPORTANT: Do not take any acne medications or over-the-counter treatments without checking with your health care provider. Some of these are not safe for pregnant women to use. Accutane (also called isotretinoin, Amnesteem and Claravis) is a prescription medication used to treat severe acne. It is a member of a family of drugs called retinoids. Accutane and other retinoids can cause very serious birth defects.

Unless your cleanser contains a warning label about use during pregnancy, you and your unborn child should be fine. During my own pregnancies, I used OLAY products and both of my children were perfect at birth. They are 8 and 9 now and other than being a little spoiled, they are fine. Good luck.
